The purpose of this study was to investigate the perceptions and practices of elementary in-service teachers about teaching models. As part of in-service teacher training program development for elementary school teachers to develop context-oriented teaching models, the focus was on gaining implications for the program development. To accomplish this goal, researchers developed a 23-item questionnaire with 6 subsections and administered 228 elementary school teachers. The major findings were as following: (1) Most teachers used teaching models more often in an open class than in a regular class that rarely opened to the fellow teachers and school administrators or supervisors (2) Most teachers taught classes with their respective teaching patterns and felt a need to change these patterns (3) As a method for changing theses patterns, most teachers preferred self-reflection and gradual improvement to teaching consultation or supervision, (4) Most teachers videotaped at least one class within a semester, and (5) They documented and analyzed the videotaped class for self-reflection. This study suggested that training program on teaching model for elementary school teachers should facilitate and help teachers to modify the teacher-proof teaching models or reinvent teaching models for their own classes with full consideration of their own teaching patterns and teaching contexts. Further research is needed on how to facilitate and help teachers.

본 연구는 초등학교 교사들의 수업모형에 관한 인식을 조사하였다. 초등학교 교사들의 수업모형에 관한 인식 및 활용 정도 그리고 수업모형 연수 경험 등에 관해 탐색하여 초등학교 교사를 위한 연수 프로그램 개발의 방향과 접근 설정에 참고하고자 했다. 설문에 참여한 초등학교 교사들의 수업모형에 대한 인식은 높은 편이었으며 실제 수업 보다 공개 수업에서 수업모형을 더 많이 사용한다. 교사들은 자기 수업의 일상적인 패턴과 스타일이 있으며 이를 바꾸기 위한 주된 방법으로 끊임없는 자기 성찰과 점진적 개선을 꼽았다. 자기 수업을 기록하거나 분석한 경험이 있는 교사들이 많았고 횟수는 적은 편이었다. 수업 기록과 분석의 목적은 주로 자기 수업의 성찰이었다. 초등학교 교사들을 위한 수업모형과 관련된 연수를 개발하여 제공하려면 교사들이 자기 수업을 중심 소재로 삼아 스스로 수업모형을 적용하거나 수정 혹은 개발할 수 있도록 도와주는 촉진적 프로그램을 마련해야 한다.
