The aims of this study are to develop and apply a program for the experience learning in Jeju Oreum (small volcano) environment and analyze the cognitive and affective change of the elementary students. For these, we applied the developed program to 6th graders of O elementary school in Jeju-do. It was found that the experimental group was enhanced significantly in cognitive and affective areas regarding the Oreum compared to the control group to which theoretical class was conducted. Moreover, students were also elevated in qualitative area of interest and curiosity for the Oreum. Thus, it is necessary to develop the experience learning programs continuously regarding region-specific learning materials containing the Oreum. It should also be utilized as the learning materials in schools extensively.

본 연구의 목적은 초등학생을 대상으로 제주도의 오름 환경에 대한 체험 학습 프로그램을 개발하기 위함이다. 또한 개발된 프로그램을 실제로 초등학생에게 적용하여 오름에 대한 인지적․정의적 영역의 변화를 분석하려고 하였다. 이를 위해 제주도의 O초등학교 학생들을 실험반과 비교반으로 나누어 개발된 프로그램을 적용하였다. 체험 학습을 적용한 실험반은 교실에서 이론적인 수업을 받은 비교반에 비해 오름에 대한 인지적 영역 및 정의적 영역에서 유의하게 향상되었다. 또한 실험반은 오름에 대한 흥미와 호기심에서도 향상된 면을 보였다. 따라서 본 연구를 통하여 오름뿐만 아니라 초등학생을 위한 지역 특이적 체험 학습 자료를 계속적으로 개발할 필요가 있다. 아울러 검증된 체험 학습 프로그램은 지역의 다른 학교에 확대하여 학습 자료로 이용되어야 할 것이다.
