This study aims to illustrate the desirable direction in terms of training music teachers through a comparative examination on the education courses administrated in the specialized training institutes for secondary music teachers (Music Education Dpt. In Nat’l, Public and Private Universities). For this goal, we reviewed the appropriateness of “The basic required courses and major fields in Music Education Dpt.” organized by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, collected and analyzed comparatively the education courses presented by the Music Education Dpt. in 10 Universities nation-wide. As a result of this study, we found low consistency in each University’s education program, because they set redundant subjects in the programs due to the similarity in subject contents among the basic required courses. In terms of the subject contents, we found attaching more weight to western music part and relative subjects than traditional music part, but also the improvement in the traditional music subjects compared to old ones. There are remarkable low ratio of the relative subjects on the methods of teaching and guidance. So, these subjects should be added to the program for the improvement in the methods of teaching of teachers. After all, “the basic required courses and major fields” should be showed into more careful and clear subjects and each university should make preparation for cultivating more qualified music teachers through recognizing and revising the education courses and fields faithfully
