This study was to investigate qualitatively what attitude toward nature young children had while they participated in nature-friendly activities through strolling and backyard gardening. Participants of this study were six five-year-old children. Nature-friendly activities including strolling and backyard gardening had been carried out smoothly during daily routines for four months. They had firsthand experience of encountering nature, playing, feeling, and inquiring through strolling and backyard gardening. The analyzed data were video recording, children interview, researcher's observation journals, children's own journals, researcher's records and memos, and photographs. The attitude toward nature of young children found in analyzed results were indifferences toward nature during the early phase, playing with nature pleasantly, feeling closeness and sharing sympathy, inquiring into nature actively, having steady interests in the experienced nature and cherishing and appreciating nature.

본 연구는 산책과 텃밭가꾸기를 통한 자연친화활동에 참여한 유아의 자연에 대한 태도를 파악하기 위하여 자연친화활동에 참여한 유아의 경험을 분석하여 문화기술적으로 기술하였다. 연구대상은 만5세 유아 6명으로, 4월에서 7월까지 약 4개월 동안 유치원 일과활동 중 자연스럽게 이루어진 산책과 텃밭가꾸기를 통해 자연을 접하고 놀이하고 탐색해 보며 자연과의 직접적인 경험을 가졌다. 분석자료는 자연친화활동에 대한 참여관찰과 비디오 녹화자료, 연구자의 관찰일지, 연구자의 기록 및 메모, 유아면담자료, 유아기록물, 사진자료 등이었다. 분석결과에서 나타난 유아의 자연에 대한 태도는 ｢활동초기의 자연에 대한 무관심｣, ｢자연과 즐겁게 놀이하기｣, ｢친근함을 느끼며 정서적 교감 나누기｣, ｢자연을 적극적으로 탐색하기｣, ｢경험한 자연에 대해 지속적인 관심 갖기｣, ｢자연을 소중히 여기며 존중하기｣로 나타났다.
