Under current school curriculum, teaching of Korean music at schools is not bearing its fruits as it originally intended to achieve because not only music teachers but also students are poorly equipped with basic theories and practices about Korean traditional music. Therefore, most of current music education is showing the miserable realities, such as vocal music or instrumental music lesson of Korean music falling short of singing folks in western-style vocalization, Dan-so lessons being done merely by taking a look at western music notes and also a few of beating-time methods by playing Jang-gu at the time of singing folk songs. As such, Korean music education at the schools is not being effectively implemented, while being pushed aside by western-style music education. That's the reason why I have determined to research on the effective teaching methods of Korean music appreciation so that we could understand and represent latent factors of Korean music through its correct appreciation which is a starting point of all musical activities. First, I tried to analyze both understanding territory and activity territory of the 7th curriculum music and its educational system and then tried to investigate what needs to be added after finding out the missing parts. Followings are the outlined summary of the Study on Effective Teaching of Korean Instrumental Music Appreciation I have suggested in my dissertation. Firstly, I have found out that many of the factors which are suggested in those understanding and activity territories of the 7th middle school music curriculum are missing from school textbook and teacher's manual and also found that much of the understanding territory of the curriculum are not in congruity with the system of contents of Korean music. Secondly, it has been found that contents of school textbook and teacher's manual should be composed of those contents which are in congruity with the contents of the 7th curriculum educational system in both understanding and activity territories and together with this, each of music pieces needs to be matched with proper arrangement of appropriate musical instrument, concrete method of appreciation through awareness of melody characteristics, presentation of right rhythms, expression of Si-gim-sae, bodily expression, appreciation attitude and its assessment and connectedness with life, etc.

학교 교육과정에서의 국악수업은 가르치는 교사뿐만 아니라, 학생들 스스로도 국악에 대한 기초 이론과 실기를 갖추지 못하여 국악 가창이나 기악 등의 수업은 서양음악식 발성으로 하는 민요와 서양악보를 놓고 연주하는 단소수업 그리고 장구로 민요를 부를 때 반주하는 몇 가지의 장단이 대부분 주를 이룬다. 이렇듯 학교에서의 음악수업은 서양음악교육에 밀려 국악교육이 제대로 이루어지고 있지 않아 본 연구자는 모든 음악활동의 시발이 되는 국악감상을 통하여 감상곡에 표현되고 있는 국악적 요소를 감지하고 그것을 표현하도록 하는 교수 - 학습 지도내용들을 연구하였다. 우선 제7차 교육과정의 음악과 교육내용체계의 이해와 활동영역에서 제시하고 있는 내용을 분석하고 여기에서 빠져 있는 내용들을 살펴본 뒤 첨가되어야 할 내용을 구안하였다. 이에 본 연구자가 제시한 교수-학습 지도내용들을 구체적으로 살펴보면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 제7차 교육과정 중학교 음악과 교육내용체계의 이해와 활동영역에서 제시하고 있는 요소 들 중 교과서나 교사용지도서에 빠져있는 내용이 많이 있었으며, 교육과정의 이해영역에서 제시하고 있는 내용들도 국악의 내용체계와는 일치하지 않는 부분이 있음을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 교과서나 교사용지도서에 나와 있는 내용들이 제7차 교육과정의 음악과 학습목표를 달성시킬 수 있고, 교육과정 내용체계에 따른 이해와 활동영역에서의 내용들과도 일치되는 내용들로 구성되어야 하며, 이와 더불어 각 악곡마다의 악기편성, 악곡의 특징을 통한 구체적인 감상방법, 장단 제시, 시김새의 표현, 신체 표현활동, 감상태도 및 평가, 생활과의 연계성 등이 필요한 것을 알 수 있었다.
