This study was carried out to investigate the effect of residence on the life satisfaction ofmentally disabled to explore the validity of domiciliary welfare policy on the quality of life ofthe residents in homes by comparing with it in facilities. The influence of residential types andthe support of society and family on the life satisfaction was examined to improve theresidential conditions. Data were collected by interview with 201 using questionnaire andanalyzed by the SPSS/19.0 program. It was revealed that the types of residence influenced onthe life satisfaction and that in facilities were higher than that of homes. The social supportwas the most influential variable to the life satisfaction of the both residents. From theseresults, it was suggested that more services and programs of community should be developedfor the mentally disabled in home to enhance the quality of life and the types of residenceshould be considered to be complementary for them to have lots of opportunities for choice.

이 연구는 탈시설화 정책에 따른 재가 중심의 복지가 정신장애인의 삶의 질에 어떤 영향을 검토해보고자 주거 유형이 정신장애인의 생활만족도에 미치는 영향을 분석하였고, 각 주거 유형에서의 문제점을 개선하고자 가족 지지 및 사회적 지지의 지지 체계와 개인적 특성의 영향력을 분석하였다. 자료는 재가 및시설의 정신장애인 201명을 대상으로 면접을 통한 설문조사로 수집하였으며 SPSS/19.0을 이용하여 분석하였다. 그 결과 정신장애인의 생활만족도는 주거유형에 의해 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났고, 재가 정신장애인의 생활만족도는 시설 정신장애인보다 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 재가 정신장애인과 시설 정신장애인 모두의 생활만족도에 가장 영향을 크게 미친 요인은 사회적 지지였다. 이런 결과로 볼 때 재가 복지 정책이 성공적으로 이루어지기 위해서는 지역사회의 지지 체계 마련이 무엇보다 중요하며 생활만족도를 높이는 다양한 지역사회 서비스와 프로그램을 개발하여 보급하는 것이 필요하다. 또한 시설에서 정신장애인의 생활만족도가 높게 나타나므로 정책 수립에서 주거유형은 배타적으로 결정되기보다 정신장애인이 특성과 선호에 따라 선택할 수 있도록 상호보완적으로 개선해가는 것이 바람직하다.
