The subjects of this study were 20 5-year-old children attending S Kindergarten located in D-gu, Gwangju set as the experimental group(n=20) and 20 5-year-old children attending Y Kindergarten located in B-gu, Gwangju set as the control group(n=20). The physical activity program of traditional games was applied to them(n=40) and the results were as follows. First, children's fundamental motor skill was significantly different between the experimental group experiencing the traditional game program and the control group not experiencing the traditional game program. It indicates that traditional games have a positive effect on children's fundamental motor skill. Second, children's social competence was significantly different between the experimental group experiencing the traditional game program and the control group not experiencing the traditional game program. It indicates that traditional games have a positive effect on children's social competence. Accordingly, it is necessary to conduct researches on diversified traditional games to maximize the effects of traditional games through the methods to apply synthetically according to life topics, local characteristics, a season, or events. Moreover, further researches should develop methods to encourage children to make game methods and rules directly and autonomously other than the existing methods when traditional games are offered to children.
