Comedia nueva, an innovative play created by Lope in the 17th century,is still dominating truly various types of plays and yet, a field of play which actuallyhad made a success of this Comedia nueva in the beginning possible wasconsidered pure comedy but nothing else. Hence, throughout the whole 17thcentury, an unimaginable number of pure comedies have been staged, andwhen you take a closer look at all those pure comedies at that time, you couldlearn that despite the vast amount of the concerned play, each of them has beenwritten and staged with relatively formulaic comic styles applied only regularly. Back then, there were basically two representative comic styles which would befrequently found in comic plays, and one of them was female dominance as in asenseless structure, and the other one was confusion and misunderstanding. Inaddition, the former comic style, the female dominance, is being found in comicplays while describing women as a ‘woman with superhuman strength’ and a‘woman with authority’, and that could be referred to as a comic style properenough to express ‘fantastic comedy’ of those times, mainly. The latter, theconfusion and misunderstanding, is basically thought to be a comic style for‘daily comedy’ of those times, and in detail, these confusion andmisunderstanding would be categorized into ‘confusion and misunderstandingcaused by slanders’ and ‘another confusion and misunderstanding caused bythe darkness of the night’ This study would be a chance for you to approach thetruth of Spanish comedy in the 17th century even more soundly while discussingthose comic styles used at that time more carefully. In the end, while improvingunderstanding on every different feature of Spanish comedy in the 17th century,the study would help you define a reputation and a right position of both playand comedy of Spain in the 17th century not only in the field of 1.000-year-oldSpanish literature but also in the world literature.

17세기 로뻬에 의한 혁신적 형태의 연극인 꼬메디아 누에바는 실로 다양한 형태의 연극을 아우르고 있지만, 초기에 이 꼬메디아 누네바의 성공을 결정적으로 가능케 했던 연극 분야는 무엇보다도 순수희극이었다. 따라서 17세기 전체를 통해서 그야말로 헤아릴 수도 없을 만큼방대한 양의 순수희극들이 발표되고 상연되었는데, 그 수많았던 당시의 순수희극들을 자세히관찰하여보면 그 방대한 양에 비해 비교적 정형화된 희극적 양식들이 일정하게 존재하고 있음을 알 수 있다. 당시 희극에 나타났던 대표적인 희극적 양식은 크게 두 가지인데, 하나는 비상식의 구도로서의 여성 상위이고, 다른 하나는 혼란과 오해이다. 그리고 전자인 여성 상위라는희극적 양식은 구체적으로 ‘괴력을 소유한 여성’과 ‘권력을 소유한 여성’을 묘사함으로써 희극속에서 나타나고 있는데, 이는 주로 당시의 ‘환상적 희극성’을 표현하는데 적합한 희극적 양식이라 할 수 있다. 후자인 혼란과 오해는 주로 당시의 ‘일상적 희극성’을 위한 희극적 양식이라할 수 있는데, 구체적으로 ‘모함(謀陷)으로 인한 혼란과 오해’와 ‘야음(夜陰)으로 인한 혼란과 오해’라는 구체적인 두 가지 형태로 나타난다. 이상과 같은 당시의 희극적 양식들을 좀 더 체계적으로 살펴봄으로써 우리는 17세기 스페인 희극의 실체에 좀 더 온전하게 접근할 수 있을 것이며, 궁극적으로는 17세기 스페인 희극의 변별적인 특징들을 제대로 파악함으로써 천 년 역사의스페인문학 전체 속의 17세기 스페인 연극과 희극이 차지하는 위상과 올바른 위치를 규명해보는 계기를 마련할 수 있을 것이다.
