This purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of integrative environmental learning through plant culturing on the pro-environmental attitude and learning flow of 5th grader elementary school students in Seoul. A revised questionnaire through the Lee(2010)’ test tool on pro-environmental attitude and the Suk & Kang(2007)’ test tool on learning flow was used to survey the effects of applying an integrative environmental learning material utilizing plant culturing. The i-STATistics program was used to analyze the results. The major results of this study are as follows. First, the researcher was able to develop and apply a professor-learning model for integrative environmental learning through the plant culturing by extracting and recreating the plant culturing from the environment-related content in the textbook of 5th graders. Second, this learning material had a positive effect on elementary school students’ pro-environmental attitude and learning flow. Third, according to qualitative results, students showed their interest in the plant, which appeared in conjunction with improvement of attitude to practice the environmental preservation and willingness. And it was confirmed that the students could be improved to focus on their homework and study by this learning. In conclusion, the integrative environmental learning material using plant culturing has a positive effects on the pro-environmental attitude and learning flow. Therefore, the activities for utilizing nature containing plant culturing can be a good plan of the environmental class in elementary school. So, it is demanded that the more integrative research on this study should be done, linking teaching and learning methods as follow-up activities.

본 연구는 식물 가꾸기를 활용한 주제통합 환경학습 자료를 개발하고, 이를 초등학교 5학년 학생들에게 적용하 여 학생들의 환경친화적 태도와 학습 몰입도에 미치는 효과를 검증하는데 목적이 있다. 본 연구의 목적을 달성하 기 위하여 초등학교 5학년 1개 학급 25명을 대상으로 8차시에 걸쳐 개발된 학습자료를 적용하였다. 사전·사후 검 사지를 이용하여 수집된 자료들을 I-STATistics 통계 프로그램을 이용하여 결과를 분석하였다. 그리고 정량적 분 석을 보완하기 위하여 연구자의 관찰·기록과 면담 및 포트폴리오 수집을 통해 정성적 분석을 실시하였다. 본 연구를 통해 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 2007 개정교육과정의 초등학교 5학년 교과서에서 식물 가꾸기와 환경교육 관련 내용을 추출하여 식물 가 꾸기를 활용한 주제통합 환경교육 학습자료를 개발하였다. 둘째, 식물 가꾸기를 활용한 주제통합 환경학습 자료의 적용은 초등학생의 환경친화적 태도 형성에 긍정적 효과 가 있었다. 셋째, 식물 가꾸기를 활용한 주제통합 환경학습 자료의 적용은 초등학생의 학습 몰입도 향상에 긍정적 효과가 있 었다. 넷째, 정성적 분석 결과, 개발된 학습자료를 통한 주제통합 환경학습을 진행하는 동안 학생들은 식물에 대한 관 심을 많이 보였으며, 이러한 관심이 학생들에게 환경의 보전에 대한 태도 및 실천의지의 향상과 연계되어 나타남 을 확인할 수 있었다. 그리고 수업이 끝난후 숙제나 공부할 때 집중하는데 영향을 미치게 되었음을 정성적 자료 에서 확인할 수 있었다. 결론적으로 식물 가꾸기를 활용한 주제통합 환경학습 자료는 초등학생들의 환경친화적 태도와 학습 몰입도를 향상시키는데 효과적인 수업방법이라 할 수 있으므로 식물 가꾸기 를 비롯한 자연을 활용한 체험활동은 초등학 교에서 환경수업에 활용할 수 있는 좋은 방안이라 할 수 있다. 그리고 교실에서의 식물 가꾸기를 활용한 주제통 합 환경학습 자료는 학생들의 환경친화적 태도 형성에 도움을 줄 뿐 아니라 학업 성취에 긍정적 영향을 주는 학 습몰입 향상을 통해 초등학생들에게 가장 많은 스트레스를 제공하는 학업 관련 스트레스를 줄이는 효과를 가져 와 학생들의 삶의 질을 향상시킬 수 있는 것으로 보이므로 본 연구에서 개발된 학습자료 개선을 위한 보다 심층적인 연구 및 체계적인 교수·학습 활동에 대한 후속연구가 필요하다고 사료된다.
