The objective of this study is to analyze the formation factors and distribution structure of Yeongcheon Medicinal Herbs Market. According to this study, Yeongcheon Medicinal Herbs Market is mainly comprised of family-type shopping areas with traditionality for around 20 years. 본 연구의 목적은 영천한약재시장의 형성요인과 유통구조를 분석하는 것이다. 본 연구에 의하면, 영천한약재 시장은 20년 정도의 전통성을 가진 가족형 상가 위주이고, 이들 상가들은 단순히 수집․판매에 치중하고 있어 상대적으로 부가가치가 낮다는 특징을 갖고있다. 본 연구의 주요 내용은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 영천한약재시장의 형성요인은 장소적 요인과 착근적 요인 2가지에 기인한다. 영천한약재시장은 영천이 라는 지역적 명성에 의해서 형성․유지되고 있고, 영천한약재시장이 지역사회에 착근되어 있는 것으로 나타났 다. 이처럼 영천한약재시장이 형성될 수 있었던 근본적 이유는 영천이 철도교통과 도로교통의 결절지 기능을 담당했기 때문이다. 둘째, 영천한약재시장의 유통구조를 살펴보면, 주문과 판매는 전국적으로, 그리고 지원과 제도는 지역적으로 구축되어 있다. 즉 영천한약재시장은 주로 도매기능을 담당하고있고, 전국적으로 한약재를 구입해서 전국적 으로 판매하는 전국 단위의 유통구조를 형성하고 있다. 이는 기본적으로 영천한약재시장이 대구․경북지역 한 약재 수집의 중심거점기능을 수행하기 때문에 가능하다.
