There has been a series of food safety accidents including the power plant explosion in Fukushima, powered milk containing melamine, and those involving GMO, MSG, and BSE in spite of the government's food safety measures, thus increasing consumer anxiety more and more. Consumers' distrust and anxiety continue on with the lack of food safety knowledge and information. It is essential to make it easy to provide and receive food safety information in order to help consumers resolve their anxiety and maintain social stability. This study thus set out to investigate the current state of and problems with food safety information provision at food safety information provision websites and smartphone apps and further the production traceability system, which is the most representative system of ICT-based food safety information, thus searching for ways to develop the online provision of food safety information. As a result, food safety information provision can ensure effectiveness along with the reduction of consumer anxiety about the harmfulness of food by devising ways to provide food safety information online, making plans to connect between on- and off-line food safety information provision, developing policies and institutions for food safety information provision on an ongoing basis, and offering risk ongoing research supports for food safety information provision. Those measures requires such a short-term effort as building a system to concentrate food safety and information at one place from all the concerned agencies dealing with food safety information. Mid-term plans include forming a partnership among the government agencies, academia, and industry, searching for ways to provide consumers with food safety information concentrated at one place in an effective manner, and implementing them. Long-term efforts include offering research supports to devise plans for ongoing food safety information provision according to the changing society, developing policies and institutions through consumer needs analysis, establishing educational institutions to develop food safety capabilities, forming a partnership among the government agencies, academia, industry, and private organizations on an ongoing basis, and enacting laws on food safety information provision.

정부의 식품안전대책에도 불구하고 지속적으로 발생하는 식품안전사고로 인하여 소비자의 불안이 점점 가중되고 있다. 식품안전지식과 정보가 부족한 상태에서 식품안전에 대한 소비자의 불신과 불안감은 계속된다. 소비자의 불안을 해소하고 사회적 안정을 유지하기 위해서 원활한 식품안전 정보제공과 정보수용이 이루어져야 한다. 이에 본 연구는 식품안전정보제공 웹사이트와 스마트폰 앱을 중심으로 식품안전정보제공의 현황과 문제점을 조사하고, ICT 기반 식품안전정보의 가장 대표적인 제도인 생산이력추적제도에 대해 조사해 봄으로써 온라인 식품안전정보제공의 발전방안을 모색하고자 하였다. 연구결과, 효과적인 식품안전정보제공을 위해서는 온라인을 통한 식품안전정보제공의 발전 방안, 온-오프라인 식품안전정보제공 연계 방안, 지속적인 식품안전정보제공 정책 및 제도 개발, 지속적 연구 지원 등을 통하여 소비자의 식품위해에 대한 불안감을 감소시킬 수 있을 것으로 나타났다. 이를 위해서 단기적으로는 식품안전정보를 다루고 있는 모든 정보담당 기관으로부터 식품안전 또는 식품위해 정보를 한곳에 집중시키는 시스템을 구성하여야 한다. 다음으로 정부기관과 학계, 업계의 파트너쉽을 구성하여 한곳으로 집중된 식품안전정보를 소비자들에게 효과적으로 제공하는 방안을 모색하고 이를 실현해야할 것이다. 장기적으로는 변화하는 사회에 맞춘 지속적인 식품안전정보제공 방안 마련을 위한 연구 지원, 소비자요구 분석을 통한 정책 및 제도 개발, 식품안전능력개발을 위한 교육기관 설립, 정부기관, 학계, 업계, 민간단체의 파트너쉽 형성, 식품안전정보제공을 법제화하는 등 다방면에서 노력을 기울어야할 것이다.
