A Study on Job Preparing Stress and Depression influencing on Smartphone Addiction in University Students : Focusing on Moderating Effect of Self-Control

The purposes of this study were to find the correlation of job preparing stress, depression, self-control and smartphone addiction in university students, and to explore the mediating role among job preparing stress, depression, self-control and smartphone addiction. The subjects were 230 university students in Seoul and Gyunggi-do area. The data were analyzed with frequency, Pearson's correlation and structural equation modeling by SPSS and AMOS. Instruments were Korea's NIA(2011)'s Smartphone Addiction Scale, Jung & Noh(2001)'s Job preparing stress, Zung(1965)'s Depression Scale, and Tagney et al(2004)'s Self-Control Scale. The major findings were as follows; job preparing stress and depression were negatively correlated with self-control and were positively with smartphone addiction. Job preparing stress and depression positively influenced smartphone addiction and negatively influenced self-control. self-control negatively influenced smartphone addiction. Self-control mediated the effects of job preparing stress, depression and smartphone addiction. In conclusion, self-control prevent from smartphone addiction as though job preparing stress and depression are. Thus special education program and counseling should be provided to increase university students' smartphone addiction through in order to reduce job preparing stress and depression and to improve self-control
