GIS-Based Public Art Project: A Case Study of Suamgol Village, Cheongju

This study aims to focus on sustainable cultural contents and resources in the region through public art projects and research successful cases regarding imagification of the local community. To connect tourism resources with public art, this study suggests a case of Suamgol Village, Cheongju through related documents and on-the-spot survey. As a result, we have found that Suamgol Village attracts many tourists thanks to imaging cultural contents including murals and filming locations of famous dramas. However, efficient storytelling strategy should be added to the murals in the community to sustain cultural space. To develop its value as a brand, smartphone apps based on GIS can be suggested.
