The character of tombs in Sunheung area has been known to be related to Koguryeodue to two mural tombs. The achievements on the latest excavation in Sunheung, especiallyOrnaments typed for attachment and Ornaments of horse trapping found in tombshave been spurring the study about the relation between Silla and group who built tombsin Sunheung area. But the way of approach and monotony of analysis are pointed out as aproblem. This study tries to approach the background of acceptance and the process of establishmentof the stone chamber with horizontal entrance style from various angles. In order to clarify the stone chamber with horizontal entrance style in Sunheungarea, this paper tries to pick out attributes which are generally recognized. In the result,it was confirmed that the stone chamber with horizontal entrance style in Sunheung areawent with the flow of the character of tombs in the upper region of the Nakdong river andwere most similar to the Micheon basin among the upper regions of the Nakdong river interms of the structure and arrangement of that reflect the element of the funeral institution. In the meantime, it was noted that a study was recently done on the realtion betweenthe Micheon basin and Gyeongju. This helps it make sense that Sunheung areawhere was similar to the Micheon basin could have relation with Gyeongju and not onlythat but the prestige good found in Tomb No1 at Taejang-ri TombsⅢ shrengthen it. The short-term building hundreds of the stone chamber with horizontal entrancestyle in Sunheung area where case of excavation of stone-lined tombs is almost not existedmeans the way of local governing on Sunheung area could be immigration, it is then presumedthat the native power in Yeongju region were existed in area around Punggi-eup,Bonghyun-myeon and Anjeong-myeon in consideration of the geographical conditions ofSunheung area, the advantage of route to the upper region of the Nakdong river and theinterrelation with dolmen in the Bronze age and tombs in the period of the Three states. In conclusion, it is possible to establish interrelationship between Gyeongju, theMicheon basin and Sunheung area. The background is as follow, in the mid-5 century, Silladeposed force of Koguryeo in Sunheung area out of Silla, concretely to north of Jungryeong,and then needed to reorganize Sunheung area. In this process, it is confirmed that large-scale tombs of the stone chamber with horizontal entrance style was built in Sunheong areaand this is related to immigration in regard to local governing.

순흥지역 고분의 성격은 읍내리벽화고분과 어숙묘로 인해 고구려와 관련 있는 것으로 보았으나 최근 조사 된 순흥지역 횡구식석실에서 신라 착장형 장신구와 장식 마구류가 출토되면서 5∼6세기 순흥지역 고분 축 조 집단은 신라와 관계된 것으로 이해하였다. 그러나 자료의 접근 방법과 문헌연구에 의존한 해석의 단조로 움은 문제점으로 지적할 수 있다. 이에 본고에서는 기왕의 연구와는 다른 관점에서 순흥지역 횡구식석실의 수용 배경과 성립 과정에 관한 접근을 시도하였고 종국적으로는 순흥지역 고분 축조 집단의 출현 배경과 그 성격에 대한 의견을 제시하였다. 사실 순흥지역 고분은 지표에서 확인된 개체 수에 비하면 발굴 사례가 상대적으로 부족한 실정이기 때문에 다수의 속성 분석에 의한 세밀한 형식 분류는 표본오차의 오류를범할 가능성이 있다. 따라서 본고에서는 이 러한 점을 고려해 순흥지역 횡구식석실의 일반적인 특징을 규정하였고 그 결과, 순흥지역 횡구식석실은 기 본적으로 낙동강 상류지역 횡구식석실의 일반적인 흐름과 일치하였으나 장제 요소를 반영하는 시상 구조 및 배치 상태와 관련된 것은 낙동강 상류지역 중 안동 미천유역과 가장 유사한 것으로 나타났다. 한편, 미천유역을 경주지역과 관련지어 해석한 최근 연구가 있어 주목되는데 이러한점은 미천유역과 순흥 지역의 묘제와 장제가 거의 일치한다는 점과 더불어 태장리고분군3-1호분에서 확인된 금동관, 금동과대, 금 제이식 등 다수의 신라 위세품에 의해서도 알 수 있다. 아울러 수혈식석곽 자료가 거의 없는 순흥지역에서 수 백기의 횡구식석실이 비교적짧은 기간 내에 조영된 점은 신라의 순흥지역 경영 방식과 깊은 관련이 있는 것으로 파악하여 이를 이주의 개념으로 상정하였다. 그리고 실제 영주지역의 재지 세력은 자연·지리적 조건, 낙동강 상류지역 진출을 위한 교통로 설정, 청동기 시대 지석묘와 삼국시대 고분의 상관관계를 근거로 하여 현재 풍기읍과 봉현면, 안정면 일대로 보았다. 이상의 전체적인 흐름 아래 신라 중앙-미천유역-순흥지역 간의 긴밀한 관계를 설정하였다. 그 성립 배경은 5세기 중엽 신라가 순흥지역 고구려 세력을 죽령 이북으로 축출하는 과정에서 이 지역에 대한 입지를 강화 하였고 이러한 일련의 과정에 의해 이 일대를 조급히 재편한 것으로 보았다. 이러한 경영 방식은 삼년산성 의 축성 과정과 유사하며 신라의 대외팽창에 의해 6세기 중엽부터 본격적으로 실시되는 정복지에 대한 이주 정책이 순흥지역에서는 그 지정학적 중요성에 의해 다소 일찍 시작된 것으로 파악하였다.
