A study on the Influence of College Students Sports-Media Contact on Their Participation in Sports Activity

The purpose of this research was to explore the influence of university students' contacts to sports media on their participations to sports activities. For statistical process using SPSS 18.0, the employed analysis methods were frequency analysis for the characteristics of research object, exploratory factor analysis and reliability analysis for the verification of research tool and hypothesis, t-test and one way ANOVA for the factor difference of groups, correlation for the relation of factors and finally, multiple regression analysis for the influence of factors. The research results were as follows; First, the result from the verification of factors according to gender indicated that the contact motivation, contact frequency and sports activity of the male were higher than those of the female. Second, based on factor verification by a school year, senior enrollers (in the third and fourth years) tended to more frequently engage in sports media related to contact (frequency and motivation) and sports participation than junior ones (in the first and second). Third, the result from the verification of factors difference according to a average sports-related expenditure witnessed that more expenditure secured more frequency to sports media contacts. Fourth, with regard to the factors distinction by sport-related media contacts, the difference of contact motivation, contact frequency, sports activity participation was not crucial statistically. Last, the regression analysis of the contacts and participations allowed that the frequency to sports media and the sub-factors of contact motivation in self-attachment and information exchange positively affected the direct and indirect participations.
