This study aims to discover how economic factors are associated with perceived and self-rated happiness at an individual level by using micro-data from regionwide surveys in Jeju province. In doing so, it explores to identify the structural relationships among the economic factors affecting happiness of Jeju local residents, including job policy, regional economy, income level, and job satisfaction, and to validate the mediating effects of the variables, such as regional economy, income level and job satisfaction, in the structural equation model. The subjects of the study are local residents (n= 1,050) residing in Jeju province. The Structural Equation Model (SEM) is used to systematically explain happiness and quantify the impacts and values of various factors found to be related to the happiness level of local residents. The research results are summarized as follows. First, the proposed SEM model showed statistical significance as well as a high level of model fitness (X2 =378.755, df=55, p=.000, RMSEA=0.75, GFI-0.949, TLI-0.937). Second, it was found that happiness of local residents was affected indirectly by job policy via the mediating variables of the regional economy, income level, and job satisfaction. In conclusion, these findings suggest that any attempt to raise happiness level of local residents in Jeju should focus not only on the revitalization of regional economy through effective job policy, but also on the systematic and long-term economic policy which can enhance income level and job satisfaction at an individual level.

본 연구의 목적은 제주특별자치도 지역 주민이 인식하는 행복도에 영향을 미치는 경제적 요인인 일 자리 정책, 지역 경제, 개인 소득 수준, 직업 만족도과의 구조적 관계를 밝히고, 지역 경제, 개인 소득 수준, 직업 만족도의 매개효과를 검증하는 데 있다. 연구대상은 제주특별자치도의 지역주민 1,050명 이며, 구조방정식모형 분석을 실시한 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 일자리 정책, 지역 경제, 개인 소득 수준, 직업 만족도, 행복도의 관계를 설명하는 최종모형의 적합도는 χ²=378.755, df=55, ρ=.000, RMSEA는 .075, GFI는 .949, TLI는 .937로 모든 기준에 적합한 것 으로 나타났다. 둘째, 일자리 정책이 행복도에 영향을 미치는 과정에 지역 경제, 개인 소득 수준, 직 업 만족도가 매개효과를 가지는 완전매개모형으로 나타났다. 즉 일자리 정책이 행복도에 직접적인 영향을 미치면서 지역 경제, 개인 소득 수준, 직업 만족도를 통한 간접적인 영향도 있을 것이라는 가 설적 모형과는 달리 지역 경제, 개인 소득 수준, 직업 만족도가 투입되면서 일자리 정책의 직접적 효 과는 없어지고, 지역 경제, 개인 소득 수준, 직업 만족도를 통한 간접적 효과만 있는 것으로 나타났다 . 따라서 제주특별자치도 지역주민의 행복도를 높이기 위해서는 일자리 정책을 통해서 지역 경제를 활성화시키고, 개인 소득 수준과 직업만족도를 높여 행복도를 높이는 장기적이고 체계적인 정책을 고안해야 할 것이다.
