Recently in our society a new paradigm, called fashion politics, which melds together fashion and politics, is forming fast throughout the internet and the other types of media. The purpose of this study lies in the provision of basic data for the new academic territory of fashion politics, and understanding the current situation of our fashion politics and looking for the right direction to seek a chance of cultural creation focusing on the Korean wave. The method of study is searching books related with fashion and politics, focusing on the leading treatise and domestic journals, and collecting data by searching newspapers and internet portal sites. In the contents of the paper, firstly fashion politics is already found to be applied effectively on the basis of historical facts and cultural grounds in politically developed countries. Second, like an iron hand in a velvet glove, President Park Geun-Hye deliberately appeared in an elegant style as the first daughter, and in a classical style with natty and elegant neutral suits as an assemblywoman. Thirdly, at 18th President inauguration, when the paradigm called fashion politics started, domestic and international media and populace focused on the political philosophy and message in President Park Geun-Hye’s fashion. When visiting China and the US, her fashion politics accelerated, and she created and used her own style of fashion politics, applying the colors which are favored by the political party of the presidents of the visiting country or the populace there. The president especially played the role of a cultural as she made Korean culture and fashion, and the Korean traditional costume of the Hanbok well known. Since the phenomenon of fashion politics can affect culture creation and impact the economy, this paper tries to study the fashion politics of Park Geun-Hye.

최근 우리사회에서는 인터넷을 비롯한 각종 매체를 통하여 패션(Fashion)과 정치(Politics)가 융합된 패션정치(Fashion Politics)라는 새로운 패러다임(Paradigm)이 빠르게 형성되고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 패션정치라는 새로운 학문적 영역을 위한 기초자료를 제공함과 동시에 우리나라 패션정치의 현상을 파악하여 올바른 방향을 모색하고, 한류열풍에 이은 문화 창출의 기회를 찾고자 한다. 연구방법은 선행논문과 국내 학술지를 중심으로 패션과 정치에 관련된 서적탐구를 병행했고, 신문기사와 인터넷 포털 사이트를 검색하여 자료를 수집했다. 연구결과는 첫째, 정치 선진국들은 이미 오래전부터 축적되어온 역사적 사실과 문화적인 기반을 바탕으로 패션정치를 효과적으로 활용하고 있다. 둘째, 박근혜 대통령은 외유내강(外柔內剛)유형으로 퍼스트레이디 시절에는 엘리건트(elegant)한 스타일, 국회의원과 한나라당 대표시절에는 무채색 슈트(suit)로 단정하고 품위 있는 클래식(classic)한 스타일로 연출된 모습이 많이 나타났다. 셋째, 패션정치라는 패러다임이 시작된 제18대 대통령 취임식에서는 정치철학과 메시지를 담은 패션으로 국내 외 언론과 대중들의 주목을 받았고, 패션정치가 본격화된 미국순방과 중국순방에서는 방문국가의 대통령이 속해있는 정당이나 국민들이 선호하는 색상을 패션에 적용하며, 박근혜 대통령만의 패션정치 스타일을 창조하여 활용하고 있다. 특히 우리나라 전통의상인 한복으로 아름답고 우아한 여성대통령의 품격과 대한민국의 문화와 패션을 알리는 홍보대사의 역할을 하고 있다. 이러한 현상들은 패션문화 창출의 기회와 패션산업의 발전에 기여될 수 있기에 본 논문은 박근혜 대통령의 패션정치를 연구하고자 한다.
