This study has an aim of defining the special characteristics of eco fashion design since the 2000s by understanding the essence of eco design within a sociocultural context, studying eco design in fashion design and the aesthetic values of eco fashion. Eco design takes a human ethical approach, with a goal of protecting nature, saving resources and thus improving the quality of human life. By analyzing eco design since the 2000s in order to set up a new theoretical standard, we found that the main values of eco design concern convergence of function, continuance of physical beauty, and naturalism. Convergence of function implies convenience and dual functions. Continuance of physical beauty is surviving artificial and planned obsolescence. This demands the fewest decorations. "Less is more" is the best expression to explain the method of continuance of physical beauty. Inner healing was found in the designs that return to a green-friendly emotion. Mostly natural materials were used. Lastly, the return and strengthening of local customs stems from the desire to escape the uniformity brought about by mass production. Through the development of science and technology, today's world has blurred cultural boundaries. The study of local customs is an attempt to make meaningful distinctions between different regions. In conclusion, this study has pursued to carry out a more comprehensive research of eco design that takes into consideration its functional side as well. This new set of standards will be useful for future studies that require a theoretical framework for case analysis.

본 연구는 에코패션디자인에 나타난 조형적 특성과 미적 가치에 대해 고찰하였다. 에코패션디자인은 친환경적 사고를 바탕으로 자연을 보호하고 인간의 건강 유지 및 증진과 편리를 도모하고자 하는 디자인 개념이다. 본 연구의 목적은 이론적 고찰을 통해 에코 디자인 개념을 명확히 하고 현대 패션에 나타난 에코패션디자인의 조형적 특성과 미적 가치를 규명하고자 하는데 있다. 연구 방법은 문헌연구와 사례연구를 병행한다. 이론적 고찰로서 에코패션디자인의 미적 가치를 알아보기 위해 문헌연구를 진행하고, 이에 따른 에코패션디자인의 조형적 특성을 알아보기 위한 사례연구를 진행한다. 사례연구의 범위는 2000년 이후의 패션으로 제한한다. 에코패션디자인의 조형적 특성과 미적 가치 분석을 위한 이론적 기준의 정립을 위하여 에코패션디자인의 가치를 탐구한 결과, 기능의 융합성, 형태의 내구성, 감성의 치유성으로 조명되었다. 기능의 융합성은 인간의 편리 및 안전을 위한 과학적 기능성과 다기능성을 갖춤으로써 제품의 수를 줄이는데 도움이 될 수 있는 가치를 의미한다. 형태의 내구성은 심미적 가치를 지님으로써 기능적으로 내구성이 지속 되는 한 형태적 폐기가 일어나지 않도록 디자인된 패션이 지닌 가치를 의미한다. 감성의 치유성은 외적 표현뿐만 아니라 내적 의미에 있어서도 자연 친화적 정신성을 지녀야 한다는 생각을 바탕으로 하는 것으로, 자연 소재를 인공적인 가공 없이 활용한 것이나 자연의 형태를 디자인에 도입함으로써 자연 감성으로의 회귀를 목적으로 하는 것을 의미한다. 이러한 에코패션디자인의 가치를 사례 연구를 통해 조형적 특성과 미적 가치를 고찰한 결과, 기능의 융합성은 로하스, 형태의 내구성은 미니멀리즘, 감성의 치유성은 내추럴리즘의 패션 이미지로 반영되고 있음을 알 수 있었다.
