According to the official documents of the World Council of Churches, we can conclude that the criticism is an exaggeration that the ecumenical missiology has no concern with the traditional Christian mission of the salvation of souls. It seems true that it puts more stress on church's responsibilities for the poor and the social and international justice. Nevertheless, it still recognizes the necessity of the traditional evangelism and mission. Moreover, WCC's official documents supports most of fundamental doctrines of historical Christianity. Furthemore, ecumenical missiology reminds us of one of the great Reformed traditions, namely, God's sovereignty over the whole universe. In that sense, ecumenical claim that WCC presents the holistic view of salvation including the body, soul, community and nature. Theoretically at least, WCC's missiology deals with both the personal and the social dimension. In practice, however,we receive an impression that WCC's concern lies mainly on this-worldly issues. The recognition of the neccessity of the salvation of souls through personal evangelism is one thing, and the WCC's real efforts for the world mission and evangelims another. One of the most serious questions regarding the ecumenical theology is how much the WCC will be able to invest itself to the world mission if it inclines to the position of accepting the religious pluralism. If it is true that evangelism and mission are most effective when both the oral proclamation of the gospel message and the action of practice of the Christian love are united together, the WCC will have to do its best to maintain the balance between the two.

적어도 WCC의 공식문서들이 천명하는 바를 따른다면, 은혜와 죄 용서, 회개와 믿음에 의한 회심 등 개인의 영혼구원에 대한 전통적 관심이 전혀 없다는 비판은 과장된 것이라 할 수 있다. WCC 선교신학이 가난한 자들에 대한 교회의 책임 과 사회정의의 구현을 강조하는 것은 사실이지만 그럼에도 불구하고 여전히 전통적 전도와 선교의 필요성을 인정하고 있다. 그리고 WCC가 발표한 공식적 문서들은 그것의 기초가 되는 역사적 기독교의 근본교리를 대부분 지지하고 있다. 에큐 메니칼 선교는 전통적 개혁주의의 위대한 유산 중 하나인 온 우주에 대한 하나님의 주권사상을 상기해준다. 그리스도의 주권은 삶의 모든 영역에서 선포되어야 한다. 그러한 의미에서 WCC가 제시하는 구원이 육체와 영혼, 공동체와 자연을 포함하는‘통전적 구원’이라는 주장은 근거가 없지 않다. 물론 WCC가 실제적으로 선교와 전도에 얼마나 힘을 쓰고 있는가 하는 것은 별개의 문제이다. 그것은 지난 60여 년에 걸친 WCC의 사역과 활동의 전모를 파악한 후에 판단할 수 있는 문제일 것이다. 그리고 일반적으로 많은 사람들이 WCC가 전통적 복음전도와 선교사역보다는 사회적 책임수행에 더 주력한다는 인상을 받는 것이 사실이다. 그렇다면 WCC는 자신들이 고백하는 전통적 기독교 신앙을 전파하는 일에 좀더 많은 노력을기울여야 한다는 비판을 달게 받아들 여야 할 것이다. 복음주의는 전도를 주로 구두선포로 이해한다. 이 점에서 WCC는 행위를 강조함으로 말만으로 끝날 위험이 있는 전자 의 약점을 보완한다고 할수 있다. 물론 후자도 단지 사회사업이나 인도주의적 운동의 일환으로 받아들여질 위험이 있다 . 복음 메시지의 구두선포와 기독교적 사랑의 실천행위 양자가 동시에 결합될 때 선교가 가장 강력하고 효과적으로 이 루어진다면 WCC는-이미 스스로 그 필요성을 잘 인식하고 있는 것처럼-양자 사이의 균형을 유지하기 위해 더욱 노력해 야 할 것이다.
