With the recent international financial crisis and depression, the youth unemployment is all time high and youths are in deep troubles and agony from difficulties of getting employed due to unstable employment environment. Also, in this rapidly changing society,the relationship between an individual and a vocation is getting more complex from the specializing, diversifying, and segmenting vocation market. At this point,determining the academic major and the vocation path is the most important step of becoming a desirable member of society. Although determining the academic major and the vocation path is a significant step of one‘s planning of life, in reality, motivation for majors by students before the admission is based on their grades or by their admission to different universities because of the education system of the country. Actually,many university students of South Korea choose their majors based on their grades or influences of significant other. Such inappropriate choice of major continues on to create maladjustment of the major, and may continue to an unwise choice of vocation path that is not appropriate for oneself in the future. Thus, this study would like to analyze how personal or social motivation for major choice effect vocation path choice factors of university students. This study is meaningful in helping individual student choose an appropriate vocation path based on the knowledge of the chosen major, understanding of one’s aptitude, and on his or her interests and abilities. This study targets total of 296 students of 4year university programs located in Seoul and Gyeonggi, and SPSSWIN12.0 program. as been used for data analysis including frequency analysis, factor analysis, reliability measure, independent samplet-test, ANOVA, and linear regression analysis. Following are the study results in order to analyze the differences of motivation for major choice depending on students’ individual traits, the motivation for major choice were divided into personal and social motives. From the result, the academic departments showed significant difference in the social motives, and a high mean value was observed in the arts and physical education departments. Differences caused by the academic year and gender were unobserved, and this has been recognized to stem from the fact that the significance of recognition of gender difference has been mostly dissolved with the start of the science and in formation age

최근 경기불황에 따른 급격한 사회변화와 직업관의 변화는 전공과 직업선택의 변화를 가져왔다. 대 학에서는 전공과 직업선택의 변화에 따라 학과간의 희비가 교차되고, 직업선택이 힘든 전공들을 중심 으로 학과 구조조정이 이루어지고 있다. 변화하고 복잡해진 노동시장의 환경하에서 청년층은 자신이 중요시 하는 직업선택요인에 기초하여 여러 직업대안 중 가장 적합한 직업을 찾으려 노력하고 취업하 고자 하지만 많은 심리적 갈등과 어려움을 겪고 있다. 이러한 현상은 취업재수생, 청년실업자, 고학력 실업자라는 실업자를 증가시키고 있다. 이에 대학생들로 하여금 올바른 직업선택과 청년실업률을 낮추 기 위해서 대학생들에 대한 입학 전 전공선택동기에 따른 직업선택요인에 대한 장기적이고 지속적인 연구가 필요하다. 따라서 대학생들이 전공을 선택한 동기에 대해 조사하고 대학생의 전공선택 동기가 직업선택요인에 영향을 미치는지 알아보고자 한다. 이 연구를 위한 설문조사는 2013. 10. 10－10. 21까지 2주간에 걸쳐 서울, 경기지역에 소재한 4년제 대학교에 재학 중인 학생을 대상으로 실시되었고 300부의 설문지를 배포하였다. 이 중 총 295부가 회 수되어 98%의 회수율을 보였으며, 누락된 응답이 많은 경우와 부적절한 설문지를 제외한 설문지 276 명을 연구대상으로 하였다. 가설은 3개의 큰 가설을 설정하였는데, 가설1. 대학생의 인구통계학적 특성에 따라 입학 전 전공선택동기에 차이가 있을 것이다. 가설2. 대학생의 인구통계학적 특성에 따라 직업선택요인에 차이가 있을 것이다. 가설3. 대학생의 전공선택동기는 직업선택요인에 영향을 미칠 것이다 이 가설을 검증한 결과 다음과 같은 연구결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 첫째, 대학생의 인구통계학적 특성 에 따른 전공선택동기에서 성별, 학년에서는 기각되었고 전공계열에서 유의미한 차이가 검증되었다. 전 공선택 평균값을 보면 예체능 계열이 가장 높은 평균값을 보였다. 둘째, 대학생의 인구통계학적 특성에 따른 직업선택요인에 차이가 있을 것인지를 분석한 결과, 성별, 학년, 전공계열 등에서 유의미한 차이가 검증되었다. 셋째, 대학생의 전공선택동기가 직업선택요인에 미치는 영향을 분석한 결과 개인적 동기와 사회적 동기, 적성 및 흥미, 전공일치성, 직업장래성, 직업경제성 등의 모든 요인에 유의미한 차이가 나타났다. 결론적으로 이 연구를 통해 대학생들의 인구통계학적 특성에 따라서 전공선택 동기와 직업선택요인 에는 차이가 있으며, 전공선택요인은 직업선택요인에 영향을 미치는 것을 확인하였다.
