Migratory birds depend on resources and deposit fuels for upcoming flights at stopover sites. According to the prolonged video-recording and monitoring on a ground bird bath and a ground feeder for 179 hours, a total of 343 individuals comprising of 15 avian species used the supplied grains and water resources during the daytime from 05:30 to 19:30, but not in nighttime, during their spring migration on Hongdo Island, where no permanent fresh water source is available. Because food availability is the most important factor for the stopover decision and the fuel deposition rate, a total of 188 individuals of six species, dominated by buntings, used the grains in the ground feeder. Therefore artificial food supply is possibly a good measure to benefit a target species or taxanomic group, but the effectiveness is speciesspecific based on the food preference. More diverse species but fewer individuals (155 birds of 12 species) used the bird bath for drinking and bathing. It suggests that water supply at stopover sites is applicable to the habitat enhancement of the stopover site in general. Nevertheless, each group of migrants has their own resource requirements and resource-use patterns during migration, and more detailed information are needed to develop sustainable management plans at stopover sites.

탈진에 의한 철새의 폐사율이 높고 담수 습지의 발달이 제한된 전남 신안군 홍도의 철새 서식환경을 개 선하기 위한 기초정보를 확보하기 위해, 2007년 봄철 이동시기에 먹이대와 급수대를 설치하여 총 179시간 동안 주 야간 촬영을 실시하였다. 그 결과 총 15종 343개체의 철새가 05:30시부터 19:30시까지 제공된 물과 먹이를 이용하 였으며, 시간대에 따라서 이용 양상이 달라지는 것이 확인되었다. 곡류가 제공된 먹이대에는 멧새류가 우점한 총 6 종 188개체의 철새가 방문한 반면, 급수대에는 12종 155개체가 물을 마시거나 목욕을 하기위해 방문하였다. 먹이대 는 장거리 이동을 위한 에너지 축적에 필수적인 자원을 제공하지만 급이되는 먹이의 종류에 따라 그 효과가 특정 분류군에 제한되므로, 향후 특정 분류군의 관리 및 서식 환경 개선에 유용하게 활용될 수 있을 것으로 보인다. 반 면 물은 모든 조류가 요구하는 공통 자원으로서, 습지 조성 및 급수대 설치 등은 철새 중간기착지의 일반적인 서 식환경 개선에 활용될 수 있을 것으로 보인다. 그러나 철새는 분류군에 따라 이동 습성 및 자원 이용 양상이 서로 다르므로, 목표로 하는 종 및 분류군을 위한 서식 환경 개선방안을 도출하기 위해서는 구체적인 정보 수집과 연구 가 필요할 것으로 판단된다.
