History is a process of human's existence, believes and religions are the integral parts of it. Witchcraft religion existed from the very beginning of the human society formation. It contains the human's original belief, reflects ways of thinking, and shows similarities of the society existed. Witchcraft religion made up the founding myths, and exercised social functions through them. Witchcraft religion reflected historical views of specific human group, and revealed the development direction. The core of Witchcraft Religion Concept of History contains two concepts of "outlook on life" and "thinking about life". Space vitality was recognized in this field, and functions of culture and society retained and expanded was seriously boosted. It was a belief of the cycle of life and death, the moment of birth only means a rebirth of life. By understanding the coherence of founding myth and national cultural's origin, it demonstrated the regeneration of time, and the purposes of historical movement. History is a coexisted process of struggle, cooperation, confrontation, and harmony. Yet in Witchcraft Religion field, such kind of process was endowed of political overtones to emphasize harmonic combination. Therefore, Witchcraft Religion Concept of History is natural easily to be forgotten in modern society, but it's social ethics, world views, ways of life shall be memorized, and possibly to get moral resurrection. Witchcraft Religion Concept of History has a significance of responsibility to revive the meaning of the lost space, time and other history field. 본고는 제주도 무속신화 <원천강본풀이>를 원작으로 자연과 생명의 문제를 새롭게 해석한 애니메이션 <오늘 이>를 분석한 것이다. 본고에서는 우선 원작인 <원천강본풀이>의 서사적 특징과 현재적 가치를 분석하였다. <원천강본풀이>는 자아찾기의 서사, 상생의 서사, 공간의 환상성이라는 서사적 특징을 갖고 있으며, 이러한 서사적 요소는 현대 사회에서도 유효한 의미를 생성하고 있다. <오늘이>는 원작의 서사 구조와 의미를 수용하고 있지만 원천강의 성격, 탐색의 목적과 결과가 다르고, 원조 자의 등장 순서와 문제해결 방법에서도 부분적인 변용이 일어난다. 신화에서 원천강은 신의 영역으로 사계절 이 모여 있는 시간의 근원이지만, 애니메이션에서는 인간과 자연이 분리되지 않은 근원적 세계로 변화되었다. 원천강의 성격이 변화하면서 <오늘이>의 탐색 목적은 잃어버린 근원적 고향을 회복하는 것으로 바뀐다. <오늘이>의 탐색과정과 문제해결 방법도 부분적으로 변화되어 상호관계와 이타적 생명관을 강조하는 방향으 로 변용된다. 이러한 변화를 통해 신화와 애니메이션은 전혀 다른 결말이 나타난다. <오늘이>에는 신(神)과 신탁이 나타나지 않고 등장인물들의 행동이 연쇄반응을 일으켜서 세계 내에서 문제가 해결된다. 그리고 문제 해결 과정과 회복된 원천강을 통해 인간과 자연이 대칭적으로 상호보완하는 이상적 세계를 제시하고 있다. <오늘이>에 나타나는 인간과 자연의 관계, 이타적 생명관은 인간･과학･이성 중심의 근대적 사고를 전복하고 인간과 자연의 대칭성을 회복하고자 하는 신화적 대안이다. <오늘이>에 나타나는 자연의 순환과 균형은 인간 의 탐욕에 의해 파괴된 자연과 생명을 회복시킬 수 있는 신화적 대안이자 현재의 우리가 도달해야만 하는 이 상적 세계의 실마리인 것이다.
