A Study on the Great Tombs District of Gyeongju City - Referring the case of Japan -

This study is about the Shilla Great Tombs that are integrated into one of the city's intellectual properties. The district planning focuses on the locational characteristics, and each district to reflect the attributes of the locational inertia such as the adjustment of road, control of pedestrian circulation system, ground exhibition compositional direction, parking lot, and open space planning, etc. In the case of Japan, the tombs of every age were expressed with their unique identity by obtaining contemporary materials, fencing, transfusion housing, and high floor building from the each time period. Also they had filled the exhibitions with the decorated walls of tombs, jar burial, and stone chamber. In particular, there were local attempts to restore ancient forests to form into the park. In the case of the distribution of the tombs within the city, sporting areas, festive squares, and playgrounds were the complemented as the park features. Each regional exhibition had rich decorative mounds, wall murals, and unique imitations. For Gyeongju preservation policy of The Great Tombs are proposed as follow. The contemporary historical research is required to ensure the atmosphere of the 4th–6th century time period. To strengthen the relationship with Wolseong Palace, adjusting the traffic circulation, pedestrian circulation, the abolition of the roads, reorganization of the shuttle bus system, construction of large parking lot, and the ground exhibition planning are suggested
