There have been repeated discussions up until now about the genealogy and variant versions of Chunhyang-jeon. Some of the theories that had been thought to be true were turned out to be wrong after some time, and some of the hypotheses that have been regarded invalid have become common sense which everyone agrees with. But in the meantime, it is obvious that the efforts of previous scholars striving to study to find out an accurate hypothesis did aid the discovery of new facts constantly and lead us to the present. According to the discussions that have been conducted so far, sechaek did support the creation of gyeongpan, the division within gyeongpan influenced wanpan, and again the changes within wanpan had an influence on the final edition of the wanpan 84 pages edition. Even though the wanpan 84 pages edition seems to have been newly created for its unique plot and different characters, they see it must have been influenced by gyeongpan. Seen from the research of Chunhyang-jeon that has been conducted to the diachronic flow, the sechaek Chunhyang-jeon and the wanpan Chunhyang-jeon seem too distant to narrow the gap. It means that there exists some gap which can never be overcome without the gyeongpan Chunhyang-jeon. But is this really true? Can’t the affinity between the wanpan 84 pages edition and the sechaek Chunhyang-jeon be the object to be considered at all? In terms of the lines, the two works seem too distant like beginning to end, but in fact, they are the editions that were distributed in the same period of the early 1900’s. In other words, exceeding the previous research, we also need to see it with the synchronic view to connect the sechaek to the wanpan directly. At this time, we may find the other elements that the two works share, but in this discussion, synchronic comparative research was conducted mainly around some of the motives and the itinerary.

춘향전의 계보와 그 이본에 관해서는 지금까지 수많은 논의가 있어왔다. 때로는 정설로 여겨졌던 이론이 시간이 흐르면서 아닌 것으로 밝혀지기도 하고, 전혀 타 당하지 않은 가설이라고 여겼던 것이 지금은 누구나 당연하다고 생각하는 상식이 되기도 했다. 다만 그러한 중에도 정확한 가설을 찾아 연구해온 선학들의 노력이 새로운 사실을 밝혀내는데 끊임없이 일조하고 현재에 이르게끔 했다는 것은 자명 하다. 춘향전의 판본 문제에서 현재까지 논의된 바로는, 세책이 경판을 만드는데 일조 하였고 경판 안에서의 분화가 완판에 영향을 미쳤으며, 다시 완판 내에서의 변화 는 최종본인 완판 84장본에 영향을 주었다고 이야기된다. 완판 84장본은 새롭게 창조된 듯 보이는 독특한 구성과 변화된 인물 성격에도 불구하고 경판의 영향이 없지 않다고 보는 것이다. 예전에는 완판 84장본을 중심으로 춘향전의 내용과 체 재를 논했기 때문에 다른 이본과의 연결 면에서 잘 설명되지 않는 부분들이 존재 했었다. 이렇듯 통시적 흐름으로 진행된 춘향전 연구에서만 본다면 세책 춘향전과 완판 춘향전은 그 거리가 좁힐 수 없을 만큼 멀게만 느껴진다. 경판 춘향전을 거치지 않고는 뛰어넘을 수 없는 간격이 있는 셈이다. 그러나 과연 실제로 그러할까? 완 판 84장본과 세책 춘향전과의 친연성은 전연 고려의 대상이 될 수 없는 것인가? 이들 두 작품은 계열로 본다 면 시작과 끝으로 그토록 거리가 멀게 느껴지지만 실 은 1900년대 초 같은 시기에 유통되던 판본들이다. 즉 기존의 연구에서 더 나아가 세책에서 완판으로 바로 연결하는 공시적 관점으 로도 볼 필요가 있다는 것이다. 이때 두 작품이 공유하는 다른 여러 요소를 발견할 수 있겠지만, 이번 논의에서는 몇몇 핵심화소와 노정기를 중심으로 공시적 비교연 구를 진행했다.
