The news concerning President Lee's visit to the Dokdo island in August 2012, wasthe biggest issue among the newspaper articles concerning Dokdo island in ourhistory. However, there were few academic research on that issue in the field ofjournalism. This research deals with all articles on the issues of Dokdo which havebeen published on the Josun-ilbo and Kyungyang-shinmoon from the 1st of August tothe 31st of August in 2012. During the first 10 days after the president visiting,largest number of news articles were reported in the area of political issues. But whenthere was a conflict between Korea and Japan after 11 days of the visiting, more ofthe news articles have been reported in the area of international issues. According tothe analysis by type of reports, sketch type report was the most frequent one. According to the analysis by formal frame category report, the influence of the eventwas the most frequent category. This is the reason why the influence of the visit hasbeen extent to the conflict between the Korean and the Japan, and the Senkakooissues influence raised the tension in the North-eastern Asia. In the qualitativeanalysis, there are more clear distinction between the conservative and progressiveapproach between the two news agencies. The task of the newspaper is to give theirreaders the sense of realism, speed, and veracity. In a long-range, the effort to deliverthe truth to their readers should be expressed.

2012년 8월 이명박 대통령의 독도방문은 언론에서 독도를 다루던 이전의 어떤 사건보다 큰 주제의 보도기사였으며, 언론들은 양적으로나 질적인 면에서 이 주제를 매우 크게다루었다. 그러나 언론분야에 있어서의 학문적 연구는 이 주제에 대하여 매우 미흡한 상황이다. 본 논문은 대구·경북판 조선일보와 경향신문의 이명박 대통령의 독도방문을 전후한 8월 1일부터 31일까지의 독도관련 보도들에 대한 전수기사를 조사하였으며, ‘보도 분야별 분석’에 있어서는 방문 직후 열흘 동안 정치 분야의 보도가 최다로 나타났다가, 이것이 열 하루 이후에는 외교문제와 동북아 긴장관계를 유발하면서 국제 분야의 보도가최다를 기록하게 되었다. ‘보도 유형별 분석’에서는 스케치기사의 순위가 양 신문에서 압도적이며, 다음으로 조선일보는 사설에, 경향신문은 해설에 비중을 두어 언론사의 성향이반영되고 있다. ‘보도형식 프레임 유목 분석’에서는 ‘주제 중심적 보도’인 ‘사건의 영향’이가장 높아졌다. 이는 국내 사건이 일본과의 외교문제로 확대되고, 다시 일본과 중국 사이의 센카쿠 열도 사건이 동북아 긴장관계로 영향을 줄 뿐만 아니라, 정치문제가 스포츠,사회, 경제문제 등으로 확산됨에 따라, 발생한 현상이라 분석되고 있다. 보도기사의 양적인 차이가 대변하는 의미뿐 만 아니라 기사논조와 내용분석, 보도 경향에 대한 분석 등을 통하여 질적인 면으로 접근하게 되면 언론사의 보수와 진보 성향이 뚜렷이 구분되었으며, 이는 독자의 참여와 상호관계에도 영향을 미치는 것으로 분석되었다. 언론의 과제는 독자와의 신뢰에 바탕을 둔 현장성, 신속성, 진실성이 내포되어야 하며, 장기적으로는독자들에게 진실을 전달하려는 노력으로 나타나야 할 것이다.
