The purpose of this study was to analyze the impact of family and social relationships on suicidal ideation of the elderly and the mediating effects of depression. More than 65 years of age residing in Seoul, Suwon, Ansung were interviewed by using questionnaires from January 3 to January 29 in 2013 and 586 people were used in the analysis. The results of this study are as follows;First, family and social relationships showed negative correlation with suicidal ideation. And suicidal ideation and depression had a positive correlation. Second, there was positive effect(β=0.681) between family relationships and social relationships and social relationships affected negatively on depression(β=-0.457) and suicidal ideation(β=-0.772). Third, the impact of social relationship on suicidal ideation(β=-0.772) was higher than any other factors. As a result, the family relationships had a direct impact on the depression but had an indirect impact on suicidal ideation by mediating social relationship. Furthermore, the result implies that the social relationship had a direct impact on suicidal ideation but did not affect indirectly suicidal ideation by mediating depression.

본 연구는 노인의 사회역할활동을 가족관계요인과 사회적 관계요인으로 구분하여 노인의 자살생각에 미 치는 영향에 대하여 살펴보고, 사회적 관계요인의 매개효과를 분석하는데 목적이 있다. 연구조사는 서울 , 수원, 안성에 거주하는 65세 이상을 대상으로 설문지를 이용한 면접법을 실시하였으며, 조사기간은 2013년 1월3일부터 1월29일까지 실시하여 586부를 최종 조사 분석에 사용하였다. 자료는 SPSS Ver. 18.0, AMOS 18.0을 사용하여 분석하였다. 자료를 분석한 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 가족관계와 사회적 관계는 종속변수인 자살생각과 부(-)의 상관관계를 나타내고 있고, 우울(절망 감과 무기력감)과도 부(-)의 상관관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 우울(절망감과 무기력감)은 자살생각과 정(+)의 상관관계를 보여주었다. 둘째, 가족 관계는 사회적 관계와 정(+)의 영향(β =0.681)을, 사회적 관계는 우울(β =- 0.457)과 자살생 각(β =-0.772)에 부(-)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 사회적 관계가 자살생각(β =-0.772)에 미치는 영향이 가장 높게 나타났다. 결론적으로 가족 관계는 우울에는 직접적인 영향을 미치고 있으나 자살생각에 직접적인 영향을 미치지 못하고 사회적 관계를 통해서 우울이나 자살생각에 영향을 미치며, 사회적 관계는 자살생각에 직접적인 영향을 미치고 있으나 우울을 매개로 하여 자살생각에 간접적인 영향은 미치지 않는다는 결과를 도출할 수 있었다.
