A study on the identity of readers through novels
초록
영어
This study is based on the awareness of insufficient discussion about why novels are appropriate as a genre of study about identity despite the fact that other studies associate novels with identity as well as recognition of how the range of a theoretical approach which supports the study is too limited. Novels can be considered as a genre which is most appropriate in exploring identity amongst other literature genres. Through novels which are structured according to specific images in life, one can explore their self-identity and ultimately, construct their overall life. In order to observe how readers explore their own identities through novels, ‘Identity Theme' by Norman Holland, ‘Subjective Criticism' by David Bleich,' and ‘Narrative Identity' by Paul Ricoeur were observed in order. Additionally, these theories were referred to in order to make suggestions on how readers project specific social texts. This study holds significance by the fact that answers were provided for the questions related to why identity exploration should be conducted through novels as well as how readers should explore their identities through novels.
