The year of 2014 is the 120th anniversary of the Donghak Revolution or the Peasants’ War of 1894. It is high time for North and South Korea to think seriously about the division, which has continued since 1945, with the spirit of the revolution or the war. It is desirable for North and South Koreans to realize national unification through the process of exchange and cooperation according to the functionalist integration theory. Jeollabuk-do Province can contribute to exchange, cooperation, and peaceful unification of North and South Korea through driving an inter-regional sister relationship with Hwanghaenam-do Province based upon a commonality of historical and cultural legacy from the Peasants’ War of 1894.

2014년은 동학혁명 또는 갑오농민전쟁이 일어난 지 120년이 되는 해다. 자주 (척양척왜)와 평화 (보국안민)를 내세웠던 선조들의 정신을 이어받아 69년째 지속되고 있는 한반도 분단을 심각하게 고민해볼 때다. 기능주의 통합이론을 적용하여 양쪽 주민들이 서로 교류하며 협력하는 과정을 통해 민족통일을 이루는 게 바람직하다. 전라북도가 동학혁명 또는 갑오농민전쟁이라는 역사문화 유산을 공통점으로 지니고 있는 황해(남)도와 자매결연을 추진해 남북한 교류협력 및 평화통일에 기여할 수 있다.
