The value of this work is that, though Shoko, the heroine, is a weak and contradictory female like a maladjusted one in a male-dominated society, she contributes independently to the relationship with the socially weak, in contrast to traditional stories where females are described as worthless characters in a male-dominated society. The varieties of marriage life from traditionally accepted idea and the peculiar relationship among a wife and a husband with a gay partner are main structural devices of this work.

에쿠니 가오리의『반짝반짝 빛나는』은 동성애자와 이성애자와의 합의결혼, 그리고 남편의 동성애인과의 공생이라는 새로운 형태의 남녀결합을 제시했다. 기존의 많은 문학작품에서는 남성 중심의 사회에서 타자화 된 굴곡진 여성상이 주로 다루어져 왔다. 하지만 쇼코는 남성중심의 다수자가 지배하는 사회에서 비록 부적응자로 살아온 유약하고 모순된 존재지만, 주체적인 의지를 가지고 사회적 약자들과 유대관계를 도모하려는 인물로 설정되어있다. 또 무츠키와 곤은 자신들의 성정체성을 유지하면서｢가족｣과｢가정｣두 가지 모두를 획득하는 새로운 모텔로 설정되어 있다. 이러한 측면에서 이들의 동거는｢이성애｣｢동성애｣모두에게 상실이 아닌 획득의 결합장치라 할 수 있다. 이 결합장치가 애정과 신뢰라는 절실한 내적동기가 바탕이 된 것이 아니라, 상황에 따른 선택과 결합이라는 점에서｢비일상성｣의 당위성도 갖는다. 결국 본 텍스트의 사회적 통념의 ‘결혼’ 제도의 다양한 변화양상은 남편을 둘러싼 아내와 동성애인과의 결합 형태라는 비일상적 결말을 파생시킬 수 있다는 우리 사회의 가족해체에 대한 단면을 제시하고 있다.
