With the coming of human life, humans start to seek ways to express aesthetic needs which along with fashion have witnessed advances over the years by undergoing a series of changes in and application of make-up, hairstyle, and accessories. The feather was used for a decorative and symbolic purpose, representing religious and shamanistic themes in the past, whereas in modern times, it plays a role in delivering a message with social phenomena presented by demands and trends of our time. This study academically established a history of feather used for western costume and the implications of feather decoration appeared in art painting. In addition, it produced art hair works decorated with a feather material and expressed creative and aesthetic values by making changes such as feather dyeing and combining the feather with different materials. This way, the study integrated a feather material into the beauty of art hair and shed new light on aspects which could not be achieved in practical beauty and it is meaningful as it provided an opportunity to expand the scope of creation and proposed a direction on the new pursuit of education in the genre of art hair.

인간의 미적욕구를 표현하는 방법은 인간생활의 시작과 함께 발생되었으며, 패션과 더불어 화장, 헤어스타일, 장신구 등의 변화와 응용을 통해 발전 해왔다. 깃털은 과거 장식적인 면과 상징성의 용도로 사회적, 종교적, 주 술적 의미를 나타내었으며, 현대에는 시대의 요구와 트렌드가 제시하는 사회현상을 담아 메시지를 전하는 예 술적 가치와 시대상을 반영하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 서양 복식에 사용된 깃털의 역사와 회화 작품에 나타난 깃털 장식의 의미를 학문적으로 정립하 였다. 또한 다양한 깃털 소재로 염색과 아이론(iron) 아이론: 전류의 힘으로 발생하는 열을 이용한 헤어 다리미 등을 이용한 미용학적 형태 변화와 다른 소재와의 결합을 통하여 깃털 장식을 이용한 아트헤어 작품을 디자인 하고 창의성, 미학적 가치를 표현 하였다. 이를 통하여 깃털 소재를 아트헤어라는 미용에 접목하여 실용미용에서는 충족 할 수 없었던 측면을 재조명하 고 미용 산업에 창작의 범위를 넓히는 기회 제공과 아트헤어 장르에 새로운 교육 추구의 방향을 제시 하였다는 데 그 의의가 있다.
