This study was conducted based on the goal to seek methods for determining the size of the roof structure on traditional wooden architecture. Until this date, a clear and independent standard has not been found regarding the Korean traditional wooden architecture despite the fact that many comparative studies, which may be partial and fragmentary, have been made based on the Chinese on the assumption that the Policy of Yingzaofashi influenced our country. Thus, this study made attempts to utilize and analyze the statistical techniques and the structural interpretation based on the actual data of the 5-structure Pyonjakbub, which is regarded as the framework for the roof structure on Korean traditional wooden architecture. As a result, the Pyonjakbub of our country differentiates by architectural style even though its fundamental approach may differ from that of the Chinese, and the determination of the size of the purlin spacing which considers the roof weight was found to be put first above all else.

본 연구는 전통목조구조 상부가구의 치수결정방법을 찾기 위한 목적을 두고 수행하였다. 중국 영조법식의 <대목작제도大木作制度>가 우리나라에 영향을 미쳤을 것이라는 가정 하에 중국 <대목작제도大木作制度>와의 비교 연구가 부분적이고 단편적이지만 연구의 주류를 이루어왔으나 현재까지 한국전통목조건축의 뚜렷한 독자적 규범 또한 찾지 못하고 있는 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구는 한국전통목구조 상부구조의 가장 기본골격이라 볼 수 있는 5량구조의 변작법에 대해 실측자료를 바탕으로 통계기법과 구조적해석을 활용하여 분석을 시도하였다. 그 결과 우리나라 전통건축의 변작법은 기초적 접근법은 중국과 다소 유사성을 보이고 있으나 건축양식에 따라 차이를 보이고고 있으며 상부하중을 고려한 도리간격 치수결정이 우선되었음을 알 수 있었다.
