This study is to understand their utopian thinking and analyze the Spatial-Form Characteristics of the Ideal City proposed by modern utopian thinkers followed the Ideal society for people in rapid social change process by studying the Ideal city plan proposed by social philosopher(s) and architect(s) based on concept of modern utopia. Analysis results were summed up as follows: First, from Robert Owen and Le Corbusier, they solved the city's overall social problem. By improving worker's standard of living in city immediately after the Industrial Revolution, they solved the desire to live well. Second, they were gathering dwellings vertically and then internally combined dwelling and working spaces to be adopted tremendous population increase on small areas in modern industrial society. Also they divided the land rationally and actively adopted the zoning concept such as arranging function for connected purpose. Third, the cooperative village and the phalanstère proposed the plan oriented introversively self-sufficient community in a single building. but the Une cite industielle and the Radiant city considered the possibility of expansion of the city planning the road systems overlapping several grid pattern.

본 연구는 근대의 유토피아적 개념을 바탕으로 한 사회 사상가들과 건축가들에 의해 제시된 이상도시계획을 연구함으로써, 그들의 유토피아적 사상을 이해하고 급격한 사회변화 과정에서 나타난 도시환경 속에서 인간을 위한 이상적인 도시를 추구하고자 했던 근대의 유토피아 사상가들이 제시한 이상도시계획의 공간 형태적 특성에 대해 살펴보고자 한다. 그 분석결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 오웬에서부터 꼬르뷔지에에 이르기까지 이들은 산업혁명 직후의 도시에서 노동자들의 주거환경을 개선함으로써, 그들의 잘 살고자하는 욕망을 해결해주고자 하였다. 둘째, 이들은 산업사회가 초래한 사회적 현상을 해결하고 도시 내 폭발적으로 증가한 인구를 작은 면적에 수용하기 위해 주거를 수직적으로 집합화시키고 내적으로는 주거와 작업공간을 결합시켰다. 이러한 가운데 합리적으로 대지를 분할하고 각각의 기능을 용도에 맞게 배치하는 등 조닝개념을 적극적으로 도입하였다. 셋째, 오웬의 협동마을과 푸리에의 팔랑스테르는 단일의 건물로써, 주로 격자의 도로체계 내의 내향적으로 자급자족하는 커뮤니티를 지향하는 계획안을 제안하였고, 가르니에의 공업도시와 꼬르뷔지에의 빛나는 도시는 여러 격자의 도로 패턴이 겹쳐지는 도로체계를 계획하여 도시의 확장 가능성을 고려하였다.
