Despite an enduring preaching tradition, relatively less attention has been given to preaching the Psalms as a poetic genre than to preaching other biblical genres. Probably, the most influential factor for avoiding the Psalms as sermon texts is related to how to do justice to the genre characteristics of the poetic texts and reflect the poetic nature and characteristics of the text into a sermon. Especially, the fact that the lament psalms are seldom preached from the contemporary pulpit highlights this issue. The primary aim of this paper is to propose a genre-sensitive preaching methodology. This paper begins explaining the definitional natures of genre (literary, contextual, and communicational nature) for its holistic understanding and thus establishes the essence of genre-sensitive preaching—to reproduce or regenerate both the content and the impact of biblical communication into a sermon. Based upon the holistic understanding of genre, this paper proposes a genre-sensitive preaching methodology, focused on the lament psalms throughout the triadic sermon making process (exegetical, principlizing, and homiletical process). This article emphasizes that a genre-sensitive preacher should recognize the genre characteristics embedded in the text as a biblical author's unique and unified communicative strategy for delivering the content and impact to the reader/audience. This paper suggests a step-by-step procedure for honoring the relevance of biblical communication by remodeling the genre characteristics of the text into a contemporary sermon. When following this process, a genre-sensitive preacher can discover the genre characteristics of the text in the exegetical process, validate them in the principlizing process, and reflect them into a contemporary sermon in the homiletical process. Finally, this paper explains several potential hermeneutical, homiletical, and pastoral benefits of this methodology.

시편 설교에 대한 오랜 역사적 전통에도 불구하고, 설교자들이 다른 성경 장르보다 시편을 설교하는 것에 설 교학적 관심을 비교적 적게 가진 것이 사실이다. 이런 현상의 가장 큰 원인이 설교자가 시적 장르의 특성을 어 떻게 다루며, 이를 설교에 어떻게 반영할 것인지에 대한 방법론적 질문과 관련이 있다. 특별히, 이 점은 시편 가운데 가장 많은 분량을 차지하는 비탄시가 거의 설교되지 않는 점에서 더욱 분명해 진다. 본 논문의 목적은 장르적 특성을 담아 설교할 수 있는 방법론을 제시하는 것이다. 이를 위해서 본 논문은 우선 장르에 대한 문학적, 정황적, 기능적 본질에 대한 통합적 이해에서 출발하여, 올바른 장르에 따른 설교란 본문 의 내용과 효과를 충실히 설교에 담아내는 것임을 확인한다. 이를 바탕으로, 본 논문은 비탄시를 중심으로 장르에 따른 설교 방법론을 주해적, 원리화, 설교화 과정이라는 세 과정을 통하여 설명하고 있다. 각 과정을 설명하면서, 본 논문은 설교자가 비탄시 본문의 장르를 구성하는 기본적 요소들(기능, 내용, 형식, 무드)이 보여주는 상호관련성과 장르적 특징을 성경 저자가 본문을 통하여 독자/청중에게 내용과 효과/역동성을 전달하는 특정한 커뮤니케이션의 전략으로 인식해야 하며, 이를 설교 작 성의 전 과정에서 일관되게 유지할 것을 강조한다. 이 설교 방법론은 본문의 장르적 특성을 주해적 과정에서 발견하고, 원리화 과정에서 검증하며, 설교화 과정에서 재생함으로, 성경 커뮤니케이션의 적실성을 오늘날의 설교 커뮤니케이션에 충실히 반영하는 본문이 이끄는 설교의 구체적인 방법론이라 할 수 있다. 결론에서 본 논문은 이 설교 방법론이 가져다 줄 수 있는 유익들, 신학적 교정 효과, 해석학적 충실성, 본문에 충실한 설교 의 형식과 감정 사용, 그리고 목회적 적실성에 대해서 설명하고 있다.
