Some recent media coverage of the tragic history of Aboriginal people to Korean ethnic churches have attracted attention of scholars both from a cross-cultural studies and a Christian perspective. In the first stage of the study, a systematic review of the literature aimed to understand Christian missions to Aboriginal peoples and imply Aboriginal missions and evangelism of the Church in Australia. The finding of this study suggests that the Aboriginal mission territory of Churches would be a refuge for the oppressed in times of trouble within God. Korean ethnic Churches have come up with three practical ways to support ① building Aboriginal based Churches and mission filed training camps for unassimilated native Australian Aboriginals; ② cultivating the useless, abandoned, empty land of Aboriginal people and harvesting/sharing the farm products with neighborhoods; and ③ preserving and promoting Aboriginal knowledge of natural herbal medicine. In terms of the most practical aspects of missionary work among Aboriginal people of Australia while identifying the role of the Korean ethnic Churches such as: ① true repentance and repenting on behalf of Australian Churches in the love of Jesus Christ for their forgiveness, restoration and the spiritual revival; ② serving(Diakonia) in Korean and Aboriginal churches working together as the body of Jesus Christ for the glory of God; and ③ a commitment to intercessory prayer with Jesus Christ for the Aboriginal mission field and the spiritual worker. However, the results of this study remain a controversial approach to limited generalization.

유럽백인의 신대륙 정복 당시 호주에 약 75만 명에 이르는 원주민이 있었지만, 영국 식민지시대 원주민 대량학살로 인해 1911년 인구통계조사에서 보고된 원주민의 수는 31,000명에 불과하다. 호주 원주민의 땅은 유럽백인들에 강제로 수탈당했고, 원주민 여성은 성적노예로, 아이들은 부모로부터 강제로 격리되어 보호수용소에서 자라게 되면서 잃어버린 정체성 회복에 큰 관심이 모아지고 있다. 이에 따라 체계적인 문헌고찰과 실증적 성공 사례 발굴은 선교와 신학적 측면에서 매우 중요한 연구 과제로 대두되고 있다. 본고의 목적은 호주 원주민사회 역사와 원주민선교의 이론적 실천적 이해를 높이고 한인교회가 선교현장에서 실제 적용 가능한 실천적 선교 방안을 모색하는데 있다. 구체적으로 호주원주민의 역사와 원주민선교 현황을 고찰하고 호주원주민선교에 전문지식과 경험이 풍부한 현장 전문가의 심층면접조사를 통해 원주민선교에 대한 한인교회의 전망과 역할을 살펴보았다. 예수 그리스도의 지경을 넓히는 원주민선교는 ‘환난 때 하나님께서 정하신 도피처’라는 결론을 도출하였다. 한인교회의 실천방안으로는 ① 원주민교회를 전초 기지로 삼아 미 개화지역 원주민 종족 마을에 임시 선교 기지를 세우는 사역, ② 버려진 원주민 땅을 경작하고 재배하여 얻은 결실을 원주민사회와 이웃들에게 나눠주는 일을 돕는 사역, ③ 자연 생태계에서 얻은 원주민 치료제에 대한 연구과 보급 등이 있다. 이러한 한인교회의 실천을 이루기 위해 ① 회개, ② 섬김, ③ 중보의 기도가 매우 중요한 역할로 대두되었다. 그러나 본고는 연구자의 주관적 견해와 연구 범위의 지역적 제한성에 의해 일반적인 결론을 도출하는데 연구의 한계가 있다. 그러나 보다 폭넓고 심도 깊은 호주 원주민선교 관련 후속연구의 기반을 제공하는데 큰 의의가 있다고 할 수 있다.
