The processes from the deaths of kings and queens to their burials in royal tombs are recorded in the forms of ‘Deungrok’ and ‘Uigwe’. After the burials, tomb officers were appointed and they undertook the tasks to protect the tombs and perform various ancestral rites. All the procedures and forms about such tomb officers’ appointment and tasks are recorded in ‘Neungji(陵誌)’. This study examined twenty Neungjis, from the Geonwonneungji(健元陵誌) of King Taejo to the Seonjeonneungji(宣靖陵誌) of King Seongjong and King Jungjong, out of existing 52 Neungjis. This research found out the times and backgrounds each Neungji’s were made out, and provided the lists and particulars of each Neungji. The emphasis of this study was put on providing basic information for the future full-scale studies about Neungji. This study will help understand the nature of Neungji, as a documentary, and make a chance to evaluate the value of Neungji that functioned as a guide for royal tomb management.

왕과 왕비가 죽은 뒤 왕릉에 안장되기까지의 과정은 ‘등록’과 ‘의궤’의 형태로 남았다. 왕릉에 묻힌 뒤에는 능관을 임명하여 각종 제례와 수호의 임무를 맡겼는데, 이에 관한 절차와 규식의 전말을 기록해놓은 것이 바로 ‘능지(陵誌)’이다. 이 글은 현재 남아있는 52종의 능지 가운데 태조의『건원능지(健元陵誌)』로부터 성종과 중종의『선정릉지(宣靖陵誌)』까지 20종의 능지를 연구 대상으로 삼았다. 연구방법은 서문 과 발문을 통해 각 능지의 작성연대와 작성 경위를 파악하고, 목록과 특이사항을 기술하는 방식으로 진행하였다. 아울러 능지를 본격적으로 연구하기 위한 전단계로서 기본적 정보 를 제공하는데 연구의 주안점을 두었다. 이 연구는 기록물로서의 능지의 성격을 파악하게 해주는 한편, 왕릉의 운영에 있어 지침 서의 역할을 했던 능지의 가치를 조명하는 계기가 될 것이다.
