The writer, by reviewing their book annotations, investigated the academic values of the titles included in Haedong-munheon-chongnok, An Annotated Classified Bibliography of Korean Books, compiled by Kim Hyu in the 17th century. This paper examined various evaluation methods adopted in Haedong-munheon-chongrok, and then compared them to the book selection criteria applied by modern libraries. The writer found that the academic qualities of those books listed in Haedong-munheon-chongrok were even more excellent than the modern criteria for good books in the point of level of authors and contents.

본 논문은 조선시대의 해제목록인 ｢해동문헌총록(海東文獻總錄)｣에 수록된 각 서적의 해제 내용을 토대로 하여 그 서적들의 질적 수준에 대해 살펴본 것이다. 먼저 ｢해동문헌총록｣에 수록된 서적의 수준 평가를 유형별로 살펴보고, 이를 현대 문헌정보학에서 제시하 는 장서평가기준과 비교하였다. 결과를 말하면, 여기에 수록된 도서의 질적 수준은 당시의 시대적인 상황과 목록의 성격을 감안할 때, 저자의 수준과 내용 면에서 현대의 양서(良書) 의 평가기준을 상회하는 훌륭한 것이었다고 말할 수 있다.
