The aim of this study is to make a comparison between Nanhoeomokji and Jeoneoj both of which are Seo You-gu’s representative works on fish. For this purpose, the articles which appeared in the Chosun.com website and mentioned these books were examined and analyzed. Furthermore from both Nanhoeomokji and Jeoneoji the contents related to river fish were drawn and bibliographically compared. First, an analysis of those website articles revealed serious errors such as quotation of wrong literature, wrong indication of titles, misinterpretation of contents, and wrong mistranscription. The causes for such errors seem to be lack of accurate bibliographical research on Nanhoeomokji and Jeoneoj and simple use of or reference to inaccurate previous quotations. The comparison between Nanhoeomokji and Jeoneoj led to the identification of 280 differences and problems with relation to 51 kinds of fish. They can be categorized into 1) difference in characters, 2) occurrences of problems, 3) correction and amendment, and 4) problems commonly found in both literatures. This analysis confirms that when Seo You-gu' son Seo Wu-bo participated in editing Jeoneoji, based on Nanhoeomokji first compiled by his father, he corrected and revised some of Nanhoeomokji's errors, but still repeated some existing problems, and even caused new problems.

본 연구는 서유구의 대표적인 물고기관계문헌인 ｢난호어목지와 ｢전어지｣를 대상으로 조선닷컴 홈페이지상의 관련 기사를 조사 분석하고 나아가 두 문헌의 강어부분을 서지적 으로 비교하였다. 기사의 분석 결과 잘못된 문헌의 인용, 서명의 오기, 내용의 그른 해석 등의 심각한 오류가 발견되었으며, 이는 ｢난호어목지｣와 ｢전어지｣에 대한 정확한 서지적 연구가 선행 되지 않았거나 일부 기존의 선례를 따르거나 참고함으로 발생된 문제로 생각된다. ｢난호어목지｣와 ｢전어지｣의 관계와 차이를 분석하기 위하여 구성과 편성 외에 강어부 분을 비교한 결과 51개 어류 중에서 280개의 차이와 문제를 발견하였다. 즉, 1) 문자의 차이, 2) 오류의 발생, 3) 수정과 변경, 4) 양자의 오류 등으로 분석되었다. 이는 ｢난호어목 지｣는 서유구가 편찬하고 ｢전어지｣는 아들 서우보가 교정편찬에 참여하면서 보다 더 정확 하게 수정 및 변경된 반면 일부 또 다른 오류를 발생시키거나 기존 ｢난호어목지｣의 문제를 그대로 답습하였음으로 분석되었다.
