In the Joseon Dynasty(朝鮮), there were the central government organizations which took charge of publications, such as Gyoseokwan(校書館), Jujaso(鑄字所), Gyojeongcheong(校正廳), etc., and several other government agencies which published books in various subject fields, following the kings’ orders, such as Sayeokwon(司譯院), Naeuiwon(內醫院), Gwansanggam(觀象監) and so on. The books published in these organizations were continuously proofread until the final complete editions could be distributed. The books locally published by the families(門中), Seowon(書院), and Buddist temples were also always proofread, and the proofreading was very thoroughly done with discussions and corrections during the entire process of editing through final printing. This study investigated the procedures and methods of proofreading performed in various stages of publishing by examining historical documents, and confirmed the roles of proofreading and their differences in stages by comparing and analyzing the organizations and people in charge of proofreading.

조선시대 중앙에서는 校書館, 鑄字所, 校正廳, 實錄廳 등 출판을 전담한 기관이 있었 고, 출판을 목적으로 설립된 기구는 아니었으나 司譯院이나 內醫院, 觀象監 등에서도 관 련 분야의 서책을 왕명에 의해 간행하였다. 이러한 기관에서 간행되는 서책은 반드시 교정 의 단계를 거쳤고, 교정은 한두 번에서 끝나는 것이 아니라 최종본이 완성되어 반사될 때 까지 끊임없이 이루어졌다. 중앙관서에서 뿐만 아니라 지방의 사찰을 비롯한 문중과 書院, 私家에서 출판되는 간 행물 역시 반드시 교정의 과정을 거쳤으며, 편집에서부터 인출이 완료될 때까지 상호간의 토론과 질정을 통하여 철저한 교정이 이루어졌다. 이 연구는 이러한 출판과정에서 이루어지는 교정을 史料 등 문헌의 기록을 통하여 확인 하였고, 아울러 책이 완성되는 단계별로 그 절차와 방법을 살펴보았다. 또 이를 담당했던 기관과 교정 참여 인물을 분석함으로써 출판에 있어서 교정의 역할과 과정별 차이를 확인 하였으며, 현존 자료에 나타난 기록을 정리하여 비교하였다.
