This study analyzes the life and works of Haksan Sin Don-bok. The major findings are as follows: (1) Sin Don-bok’s courtesy name is Junghu, and his pen name is Haksan or Gyeongheon. His ancestral home is Yeongsan. (2) Haksan appreciated Hermit-Taoism, Patriotism, and “Practical Learning” which valued the economic enrichment and welfare of people. (3) He wrote three books, that is, Haksan-haneon, Jwagya-budam, and Husaengrok, and some documents, including Haedong-jeondorok-gimun. (4) Haksan-haneon includes 100 pieces of fables, Jwagya-budam describes episodes about 212 men and women of noble birth, and Husaengrok covers 103 titles and 393 items of agricultural and scientific techniques which could help the economic enrichment and welfare of people. (5) In Husaengrok, the item of ‘typecasting’ describes in detail some scientific techniques of movable type printing which include the current technique of typecasting, soil typecasting, Chinese soil block plates, and the current technique of movable wooden types, etc.

本 硏究는 鶴山 辛敦復(1692-1779)의 生涯와 著述에 관하여 考究한 것으로 그 결과는 다음과 같다. (1) 辛敦復은 字가 仲厚이고 號는 鶴山 또는 景軒이며, 본관은 靈山이다. (2) 鶴山은 仙道思想과 愛國思想 및 利用厚生을 중시하는 實學思想을 堅持하였던 인 물이다. (3) 鶴山의 著述로는 ｢鶴山閑言｣을 비롯하여 ｢左溪裒譚｣과 ｢厚生錄｣ 등 3種의 著述 과 <海東傳道錄記文> 등의 記文이 있다. (4) ｢鶴山閑言｣에는 100篇의 설화가 수록되어 있고 ｢左溪裒譚｣에는 朝鮮時代 後期의 士大夫와 婦女 212명의 인물에 관한 逸話와 詩話 등이 수록되어 있으며, ｢厚生錄｣ 에는 103題 393項目의 利用厚生的인 農業技術과 科學技術이 수록되어 있다. (5) ｢厚生錄｣의 ‘鑄字’條에는 ‘俗法鑄字’․‘土鑄字’․‘中原土板’․‘近法木鑄字’ 등 活字 와 관련된 科學技術들이 비교적 자세하게 記述되어 있다.
