It may not be an exaggeration to say that the keyword of schooling in Korea is ‘creativeness & character(C-C) education’. Thus this study explored the direction of elementary physical education for educating C-C by analyzing critically how C-C education is applied into the national physical education curriculum document. First, C-C education is reviewed generally from exploring the background of C-C education advent to discussing the conceptual relationship between creativeness and character. In addition, the relevant studies which try either establishing the conception of C-C or taking critical perspective on C-C were discussed. And the critical analysis on the 2009 revised physical education curriculum was done in the all of curricular components with focusing on its logic and efficacy. Based on these discussion and analysis, the directions of elementary physical education were presented as following: organic integration of creativeness& character, re-establishing the student-centered elements of creativeness&character, and reinforcing the right of choice the elements of creativeness&character when organizing the educational contents.

2009년 이후부터 우리나라 학교교육의 또 다른 이름은 창의․인성교육이라 해도 과언이 아니다. 이 연구는 학교교육의 기본 방향으로서 제시된 창의․인성교육이 체육과 교육과정에서는 어떻게 적용되고 있는지에 대한 비판적 분석을 토대로 창의․인성교육을 위한 초등체육교육의 방향을 모색하고자 하였다. 우선, 창의․인성교육에 대해서 전반적인 검토를 수행하면서 창의․인성의 등장 배경과 양자 간의 관계를 탐색하였고, 그동안 체육교육 분야에서 창의성과 인성에 초점을 두고 수행된 연구 결과를 정리하면서 창의․인성교육의 개념 정립을 시도하거나 비판적 관점을 견지한 선행 연구에 특별히 주목하였다. 이어서 2009년 개정 체육과 교육과정 문서의 목표, 내용, 방법, 평가 항에 걸쳐서 창의․인성의 통합적 지도가 논리성과 실효성이 있는지를 논의하였고, 이 결과를 바탕으로 초등체육이 추구해야 할 방향으로서 창의성과 인성의 유기적인 통합, 학습자 중심의 창의성과 인성의 요소 재정립, 교육 내용 편성에 있어 창의․인성 요소의 선택권 강화를 주장하였다.
