This is a case study on 8 pieces of design works created in collaboration with Atelier Lognon, an Haute Couture pleat workshop located in Paris. This study is intended to explore the visual attributes of pleats and how the aesthetic characteristics of pleats have been expressed. In addition, this study is aimed at offering new ideas for developing fresh fashion design with high added values. This study is also aimed at promoting the importance of traditional handicraft skills and inheriting and developing them in the modern context. This study reveals that the visual attributes of pleats are characterized as 'repetition', 'solidness', and 'condensation', which lead to the following aesthetic characteristics: 'unity and direction'; 'norms and dynamics'; 'spatiality and flatness'. In addition, this study confirms that original techniques of pleats created through traditional handicraft methods have contributed to fashion design development and research.

본 연구는 파리의 오트 쿠튀르 플리츠(haute couture pleats) 공방인 아뜰리에 로뇽(Atelier Lognon)과의 협업으로 제작된 8점의 디자인 작품에 대한 사례연구이다. 연구의 목적은 플리츠의 조형성을 살펴보고, 아뜰리에 로뇽의 수공예 플리츠를 이용한 패션디자인에서 플리츠의 미적 특성이 어떻게 표현되었는지를 살피는데 있다. 또한 새로운 플리츠 기법을 통하여 참신성과 고부가가치성을 지닌 패션디자인 개발에 영감을 제공하며, 전통적인 수공예 기술의 중요성을 일깨우고 그것을 현대적으로 계승하고 발전시키는데 있다. 작품 분석 결과, 플리츠가 지니는 반복, 견고, 응축이라는 조형성과 함께 반복에 따른 미적 특성은 통일성과 방향성, 견고에 의한 미적 특성은 규범성과 역동성, 응축에 의한 미적 특성은 공간성과 평면성으로 도출되었다. 본 연구는 전통 수공예 방식으로 제작된 독창적인 플리츠 기법이 패션디자인개발에 있어서 새로운 아이디어의 제안이 될 수 있다는 점에서 연구의 의의가 있다고 본다.
