This paper analyse the impact of the firms size and age on the firms growth rate in Korean manufacturing industry. This paper examines the impacts of sales growth rate and the size of the firms for over 25 thousand firms that exists in manufacturing industry during 1998-2011. To analyse the impact of political and government specific factors on the firms growth rate after the economic crisis occurred in 1997, we divide the whole period into 3 groups depending on 3 presidential terms of office. As a result, there are positive relations between the growth rate and the size of the firms in all groups, which deny the Gibrat’s law. The Jovanovic hypothesis is statistically significantly supported only during president Daejung Kim’s incumbency. Capital intensity has statistically significant negative impact only in Daejung Kim’s terms of office on the growth rate. However, market concentration ratio has strong positive impact on the growth rate in the all three periods.

본 논문은 한국의 제조업에 대하여 기업의 규모 및 나이가 기업의 성장에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 이에 정 책적 환경이 미치는 영향을 구분하기 위하여 1997년 IMF 경제위기 이후에 정권별로 기간을 분류하여 분석을 수행하였다. 분석기간 전 기간에 걸친 실증분석의 결과는 Gibrat의 법칙은 성립하지 않으며, 기업의 나이는 유의하게 음의 영향을 기업의 성장률에 미친다는 Jovanovic의 결론을 지지하는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 그러나 정권별로 분류하여 분석한 결과에 따 르면, 각 기간별로 Gibrat의 법칙은 성립하지 않으며, 기업의 나이가 성장률의 음의 영향을 미친다는 Jovanovic의 결론은 김대중정부에서만이 유의하게 지지되고 있음을 확인하였다. 아울러 기업의 성장률에 기업의 자본집약도는 김대중정부에서만이 유의한 음의 영향을, 시장점유율은 전기간에 걸쳐 양의 영향을 미치고 있다.
