The contents of the petroglyphs found in Korea that depicted daggers are collated and summarized and the characteristics of these petroglyphs and the dates that they were drawn are investigated in comparative analyses with other archeological artifacts and petroglyphs in this study. The petroglyphs of daggers that have been examined so far are found in Inbi-ri in Pohang, Orim-dong in Yeosu, Bonchon- ri in Sacheon, Sannae in Miryang, Sinan in Miryang, Massang-ri in Uiryeong and Bongpyeongri in Goryeong, and most of them are thought to be related to the Bronze Age artifacts. The dates when they were drawn and how they should be recorded chronologically could be set with some precision when compared with related artifacts and building sites, and it is estimated that these dagger expressions date is from the Bronze Age to the early stage of the Iron Age. In addition, when the two different forms of petroglyphs—one that depicts the hilt of a dagger and the other is similar Geompa-style (i.e., one that seems to express dagger hilt) petroglyphs—are compared, their characteristics reveal that they are closely related in terms of when they were drawn, but many dissimilarities exist in the expressive forms or where they stand. In short, they look quite similar in terms of form (hilt and Geompa-style), but it is difficult to view them as identical objects. Rather, it is regarded not only the petroglyphic representation of a sword but a distinct symbol that reflects with other artifacts.

본 글은 우리나라에서 발견된 암각화 중에서 검이 표현된 유적의 내용을 개략적으로 정리하고 이와 관련된 고고학적 유물과 다른 암각화와의 비교분석을 통하여 검 암각화의 특징과 제작시기 등을 살펴보았다. 지금까지 조사된 검 암각화는 포항 인비리, 여수 오림동, 사천 본촌리, 밀양 살 내, 밀양 신안, 의령 마쌍리, 고령 봉평리 유적이 있으며 대부분 청동기시대 유적과 관련 된 것으 로 여겨진다. 검 암각화는 관련유물과 유구를 통해서 제작시기와 편년을 설정할 수 있으며 대체 로 검 표현물은 청동기시대에서 초기철기시대까지 이어진 것으로 추정된다. 또 검 손잡이 형태 와 유사한 검파형 암각화와 비교해 볼 때 두 암각화의 성격은 형상의 출현시기에서부터 상호밀 접하게 관련되어 있지만 입지나 표현기법에 있어 여러 차이점이 나타나고 있다. 검의 손잡이와 검파형 그림은 형태에 있어 유사하지만 이를 등치관계로 보기는 어려우며 오히려 하나의 독특한 상징으로 검과 검파형 암각화뿐만 아니라 여러 유물에 함께 반영되어 나타난 것으로 추정된다.
