Bangudae Petroglyphs has been consistently studying as a representative in Korean Petroglyphs since it was found. This nation’s largest ruins of petroglyphs also have not been reviewed faithfully in terms of materials. When we consider the condition of ruins in which it is difficult to access regularly and to study directly, it is very important to review basic data for a study. Meanwhile, a rubbing, a photo and some blueprints have been used to study Bangudae Petroglyphs. The rubbing of them has to be prohibited because it is inaccurate and damages its ruins during the process of making it. Besides it, the important data is a photo and a blueprint that was imitated expression thing. The blueprint of them is basic data to show well information of expression thing. For Bangudae Petroglyphs that can’t be accessed regularly, it is essential to have correct blueprint. This article tried to help selecting the right basic data for the following study, as comparing with 4blueprints of Bangudae Petroglyphs that were used to study until now. At the same moment, this paper tried to discuss the suitability of application as reviewing the merits and demerits for each data.

한국 암각화를 대표하는 울산 대곡리 반구대암각화는 발견과 동시에 지속적으로 연구되어 왔 다. 이 국내 최고의 암각화에 대하여 자료적 측면에서 볼 때, 그렇게 충실한 기초자료를 바탕으 로 그간의 연구가 진행되었다고 보기는 어려울 것 같다. 유적에 대한 상시적 접근이나 직접적 으로 연구한다는 것이 거의 불가능한 유적의 사정상, 연구에 활용되는 기초자료의 검토는 매우 중요한 일임에도 불구하고, 기초자료에 대한 검토는 그다지 깊이 있게 분석된 것 같지는 않다. 그간 반구대암각화 연구에 활용된 자료는 주로 탁본이나 사진, 그리고 몇 점의 도면이 있다. 그 중 하나인 탁본은 골동적 가치로 하여 호사가들에게 크게 선호되는 모양이다. 하지만 자료로 서 부정확성은 물론이요, 그것을 만드는 과정이 유적을 크게 훼손하기 때문에 금지되어야 하는 것이다. 그 외의 기초자료로는 사진이나 표현물을 모사한 도면이 있다. 특히 도면은 표현물의 정보를 가장 잘 전해주는 실질적인 기초자료이다. 접근성이 크게 떨어 지는 반구대암각화의 경우, 구체적인 현상에 대한 연구를 위해서도 정확한 도면의 확보는 필수 적일 수밖에 없다. 본고에서는 그동안 반구대암각화 연구에 활용되어 온 서로 다른 조사주체에 의한 도면 4점를 비교하였다. 이러한 작업은 이전보다 한층 정교하게 수행되어야 할 암각화연구 에서 자료적 선택을 돕고자 하는 데 있다. 아울러 필자의 시각에서 각 자료가 가진 장단점을 검 토하여 활용의 적합성을 동시에 논해 보고자 하였다.
