At a point where design administration is settling as a part of city administration, I have undergone research on the role of design within Busan city administration. For this research, as of October 2013, I have uncovered problems in Busan design administration by examining and analyzing web_sites of other cities such as Seoul, the 5 major cities, and other cities in the Kyung Nam Province. As a result of my analyses, domestic metropolitan design administration systems based on that of Seoul, have expanded to other major cities around the nation. Design administrations, with the exception of Seoul, have been incorporated into city planning and residential building related departments, and are actively involved in areas such as urban design, public design and vista design. However, the duties regarding Busan design administration have been organized by a sub-faction, and the role of design is very subtle and introverted compared to the size of the city. Busan should now be able to enrich the lives of the citizens and let them feel happiness. I suggest expanding the role of design in city administration by upgrading the aforementioned sub-faction into a department or office with a broader understanding of design, employing more qualified personnel, and operating citizen-based consultative body in order for Busan to gain the esteem of an international city.

디자인행정이 도시행정 조직에 정착하고 있는 시점에서 부산시 도시행정에서 디자인의 역할에 대한 연구를 진행하였다. 이에 본 연구를 위하여 2013년 10월 현재, 서울시를 비롯한 부산시와 5대광역시, 경남지역 시 단 위 도시의 홈페이지 검색을 통해 국내 도시별 디자인 행정조직 체계와 디자인업무를 조사, 분석하여 부산시의 디자인행정에 대한 문제점을 도출하였다. 분석결과 국내 도시의 디자인행정체계는 서울시의 사례를 근간으로 하여 광역시를 비롯한 시 단위 도시로 확 산된 것으로 나타났으며, 서울시를 제외한 도시의 디자인행정은 주로 도시정책과 주택건설 업무를 담당하고 있던 부서에 도입되어 도시디자인, 공공디자인, 경관디자인 분야에 적극 활용하고 있으나 부산시의 행정조직 에 디자인 업무는 계 단위로 조직되어 있는 실정이며, 디자인의 역할은 도시의 규모에 비교하면 매우 소극적 이며, 미미한 수준이라고 하겠다. 이제 부산시는 시민 삶의 질을 높이고 시민이 행복을 느낄 수 있는 국제도시로서의 위상을 갖추기 위하여서는 부산시 행정을 관할하는 단체장의 디자인에 대한 폭 넓은 이해를 바탕으로 국, 실 단위 조직의 디자인행정 조 직을 갖추고, 전문 인력의 배치와 주민이 참여하는 협의체 운영을 통하여 도시행정에서 디자인의 역할을 확대 하여야 할 것을 제안한다.
