The history of Yeats’s study and practice of Buddhism is disclosed by his biographers. And his poetry shows a deep influence of Buddhism. And Eliot seriously thought of converting himself to Buddhism, while writing The Waste Land. It is natural that his poetry mirrors his interest in Buddhism. This paper surveys in part their interests in Buddhism and shows some obvious Buddhist influences on their poetry.

예이츠와 엘리엇은 그들의 이력과 작품에 동양사상, 특히 불교의 영향을 짙게 보여준다. 자신들이 불교의 영향을 받았다고 말하기도 했고, 불교를 깊이 있게 천착하기도 하였다. 이들의 작품이 불교적인 색채를 보이는 것은 당연하다. 본고는 이들의 삶이 불교와 어떤 관계를 맺고 있는지, 그리고 작품에는 불교 사상이 어떻게 표현되어 있는지를 살펴본다.
