This study aims to critically examine Donghak ethical thoughts described in high school ethics textbooks and the College Scholastic Aptitude Test. Currently textbooks in Korea are of great significance. Textbooks describe basic foundations of studies which represent the era and limit the scope of test questions for students. Thus, students regard short phrases in textbooks as important and memorize them. They also learn diverse concepts which stem from the phrases. However, it is natural that errors in textbooks lead to erroneous test questions as they are based on textbooks. These errors are discovered in high school textbooks and test questions in the College Scholastic Aptitude Test. In particular, there is no doubt that the phrase, 'Donghak is an integration of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism' in the textbook causes controversy. Thus, this study examines the following subjects connectively. First, this study critically examines problems of Donghak thoughts described in high school ethics textbooks. In particular, ethics textbooks in the past 6th and 7th Educational Curriculum and the current revised Educational Curriculum 2009 are examined. Second, this study reviews test questions about Donghak thoughts in the College Scholastic Aptitude Test for the past 10 years with each educational curriculum, several problems of the test questions, and the most serious problem. Third, the most controversial phrase in ethics textbooks and the College Scholastic Aptitude Test is 'Donghak is an integration of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism'. This study examines why this phrase is not valid intensively.

본 연구는 고등학교 윤리 교과서와 대학수학능력시험에 서술되어 있는 동학윤리사상을 통해서 동학과 유․불․도의 관계를 검토해 보고자 한 것이다. 현재 우리나라에서 교과서가 지니는 의미는 매우 크다. 교과서는 그 시대를 대표하는 학문들의 기본적인 토대가 서술되어 있으며, 학생들의 각종 시험 문제의 범위를 한정시켜주는 역할도 하고 있다. 그래서 학생들은 교과서에 있는 작은 구절도 중요시하며 암기할 뿐만 아니라, 거기서 파생되 는 다양한 개념을 학습하고 있다. 하지만 교과서 서술에 오류가 있다면 교과서에 기초하여 출제된 많은 문항들도 오류가 발생하는 것은 당연한 것이다. 이러한 오류를 고등학교 윤리 교과서와 이를 통해서 출제된 대학수학능력시험 문항을 통해서 찾아 볼 수 있다. 특히, ‘동학은 유교․불교․도가 (도교)의 융합이다’ 는 교과서의 구절은 많은 논란을 가진 구절이 아닐 수 없다. 그래서 본 연구에 서는 다음 세 가지의 주제를 연계적으로 검토해 보고자 한다. 첫째, 지난 6차 교육과정과 7차 교육과정, 현재 2009개정 교육과정에서 서술된 고등학교 윤리 교 과서의 동학사상들의 문제점을 살펴본다. 둘째, 각 교육과정이 적용된 지난 10년 동안 동학사상이 대학수학능력시험에 어떻게 출제되었으 며, 출제된 문항의 문제점 몇 가지와 가장 큰 문제점이 무엇인지를 고찰할 것이다. 셋째, 윤리 교과서와 대학수학능력시험 문항에서 많은 논란을 가진 서술은 ‘동학은 유교ㆍ불교ㆍ도교 사상을 융합하였다’이다. 이 구절이 어떤 측면에서 타당한 서술 내용이 될 수 없는지를 집중 적으로 고찰해 보고자 한다.
