The purpose of the study is to investigate the empirical elements and the process of parents' recognition about music therapy. Three parents, whose children(8-14 ages) with disability received music therapy for over one year, were interviewed in depth. The data was collected and analyzed by ground theory method. The 108 concepts was collected and divided into 28 categories in open coding, then rearranged into 11 categories in axis coding. To explain parents' recognition about music therapy through grounded theory paradigm, as a result, the main phenomenon of experience was 'changed children's behavior after receiving music therapy'. The casual contition was isolation of children, worthless experience of therapy, and vague expectation on music therapy. Experience of supportive and re-educational music in the sessions affected as the contextual condition. Concrete expectation about music therapy was revealed and recognition about music therapy was formed by the intervening condition, trust in therapists. This study is meaningful as it provides the actual information on them.

본 연구는 자녀의 음악치료 경험을 통한 부모의 인식 형성을 이해하고 그 과정에 어떠한 요인들이 있는지를 살펴보고자 하였다. 그에 따라 음악치료 수혜경험이 1년 이상인 장애아동(8∼14세)의 부모 3명을 대상으로 하여 심층면담을 통해 수집된 내용은 근거이론 도출을 위한 예비연구를 위해 시행하였다. 분석된 심층면담의 내용은 개방코딩의 결과에 따라 총 108개의 개념이 추출되었다. 이 개념들은 25개의 하위범주로 나뉘었으며, 이는 다시 11개의 범주로 정리되었다. 근거이론의 패러다임 모형에 따른 범주분석으로 부모의 인식 형성과정이 도출되었다. 음악치료경험 이후 변화된 자녀의 모습이 중심현상을 이루고 있으며 이를 중심으로 자녀의 소외감, 자녀에게 도움이 되지 않는 치료경험 그리고 음악치료에 대한 막연한 기대가 중심현상의 인과적 조건으로 작용하였다. 치료에서 경험하는 수용적이고 표현적인 음악활동이 지지적․재교육적 음악으로 분석되어 맥락적 조건으로 작용하였다. 치료사에 대한 신뢰가 중재조건이 되어 음악치료에 대한 구체적 기대를 발현시키고 음악치료 인식 형성의 결과를 가져오도록 하였다. 이 연구는 음악치료를 수혜받은 아동들의 부모들을 대상으로 하여 그들이 어떻게 음악치료를 인식하고 이를 촉진하는 요소에 무엇이 있는지에 대한 실제적인 정보를 제공했다는 점에서 그 의의가 있다.
