The purpose of this study is to find characteristics of the law-related education(LRE) programs for school violence prevention and to identify implications of giving to the LRE programs for school violence prevention in Korea. In order to achieve the purpose of this study, I started analyzing contexts of the LRE programs for school violence prevention in the United States. Finally, I found useful characteristics and directions of good LRE programs for school violence prevention. The major results from this study are as follows. First, knowledges, skills, and values/attitudes in the LRE curriculum for school violence prevention should be not abstract, but concrete. Second, successful conditions for school violence prevention should be reflected in the contents and methods of the LRE program for school violence prevention. Third, we should evaluate the impact of current LRE programs on students, and examine whether they have successful conditions for school violence prevention. Fourth, the LRE programs for school violence prevention should be developed for the needs of the young people in diverse settings. Fifth, we should prepare the LRE dissemination program while developing the LRE programfor school violence prevention.

본 연구의 목적은 학교 폭력이 문제시되고 있는 현실에서, 학교에서의 일상적인 활동과 프로그램으로학교 폭 력 문제를 해결하고 있는 미국의 법교육에 주목하고, 학교 폭력 예방 교육으로서 법교육이 갖추어야 할 성격 을 파악하는데 있다. 이를 위해 미국 법교육에서 학교 폭력 문제 해결에 법교육을 연계하게 되는과정과 맥락 을 살펴보고 학교 폭력 예방 교육으로서 법교육이 갖는 특징을 밝혀 시사점을 얻고자 하였다. 본 연구의 결과 는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 학교 폭력 예방을 위한 법교육 프로그램은 설정한 목표에 맞게 지식, 기능, 가치·태도 영역을정교화하여 접근하여야 한다. 둘째, 학교 폭력 예방을 위한 법교육 프로그램은 내용과 방법에서 학교 폭력 예방에 성공적 인 조건들을 통합하여 개발해야 한다. 셋째, 현재 진행하고 있는 법교육 프로그램에 대한 평가를 통하여 그 효 율성을 확인하고, 학교 폭력예방에 성공적인 조건을 갖추고 있는지를 검토하여야 한다. 넷째, 학교 폭력 예방 을 위한 법교육 프로그램은 다양한 환경에 속한 학생들 각각의 요구에 부응하도록 다양한 프로그램으로 준비 되어야 한다. 다섯째, 학교 폭력 예방을 위한 법교육 프로그램을 개발함과 동시에 개발된 법교육 프로그램을 현장에 확산하는 프로그램도 마련하고 시행하여야 한다.
