This study empirically analyzed the degree of active representation of female police officers and some demographic, societal and organizational factors which increase their commitment. Based on prior researches, the concepts, types, and measurement methods of representation were reviewed and police officers in the Daegu Metropolitan Police Agency were selected for this analysis. Statistical analysis was implemented with 448(170 women) questionnaires out of 500. The results are as follow. 1) Despite low level of passive representation in the police organization, female police officers showed positive(3.581) attitudes toward active representation. 2) Female police officers had different attitudes toward some active representation from male officers 3) Lower rank and higher gender pride were found to increase the attitudes toward protecting women's interests. The positive linkage was found too when female officers deal with issues which have patent ramification for the well-being of their sex and feel more accountable to the society they serve. Based on this analysis, some implications for the police organization and future research needs are suggested.

이 연구에서는 경찰 조직 내 여성대표성에 대한 실증분석을 통해 그 실태를 진단하고 이에 영향을 미치는 요인들을 분석하고자 하였다. 선행 연구들을 중심으로 대표성의 개념 및 종 류, 측정방법, 그리고 영향요인 등에 대하여 고찰한 후, 대구지방경찰청 소속 경찰관들을 대상으로 분석하였다. 연구결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 먼저, 우리나라 여자경찰관들은 조직 내 낮은 수적 대 표성에도 불구하고 3.581로 보통 보다 높은 능동적 대표성 수준을 표출했다. 둘째, 남자경 찰관과 비교해서 여자경찰관들은 실천적이고 현실적인 부분에서 보다 적극적이었다. 셋째 , 여자경찰관들의 능동적 대표성은 계급, 성별 자부심, 정책특성, 그리고 전문화 수준 등 다 양한 요인들로부터 영향을 받고 있다. 구체적으로는 계급이 낮을수록, 여성 정체성에 대한 자부심은 강할수록, 담당하는 업무가 여성들의 이해관계에 직접 영향을 미치는 정책 관련 성이 높을수록, 그리고 사회적 책임성을 강조하는 전문성에 대한 인식이 강할수록 능동적 대표성이 높게 나타났다. 이와 같은 연구결과를 토대로 향후 여성대표성과 관련된 과제 및 후속 연구 방향 등에 대 하여 살펴보았다.
